Moon Meadow is ablaze with white thistle seeds (luckily no ragwort). They're literally everywhere, blowing past me in the fresh breeze. Nature is such a wonderful teacher, showing us how to spread seed to ensure healthy, strong plants. What have you found that's self-seeded in your outdoor space?

Ragwort pulling photo dump.

We finished the Ragwort pulling last week, and Helen got the trophy! The bright yellow blossom is going into seed now, and I would never have been able to clear it all alone. Thank you to each and every one of you who gave their time and pulling power. xx

A weekend full of community, love, and care for the environment. I'm always blown away by the kind, caring people I've chosen to surround myself with.

Thank you everyone for coming to help pull up the Ragwort!

We will be training you to become an assistant groomer, which means you do all the important tasks! With out the dog having a proper scrub in the bath , handled with love and care dureing a though dry and brush, the stylist can't do their job, so u see it really is crucially important we get the right person for this role, and time will be taken on our selection. More details on other job tasks and rate of pay on application. After a brief chat with applicate, we will invite suitable people in for an afternoons trial as an interview. We want you to see what the jobs all about first hand and us see how you are around the dogs. Please email me to apply to [email protected]

Does anyone know of someone in the UK who might be able to provide a forever home for Bear? Bear is one of the litter Shaun&Kim were homing earlier in the year. He went to a family home in Bury Saint Edmunds but, due to a change in circumstances, they are no longer able to look after him. So he is looking for a new home with people who want to be showered with love and cuddles. Enricher male from the Retreaver/Collie pups (Pog's brother). He is a complete softie who loves his Teddy bear, please share and help with leads if you can friends X

Pog and Olives' relationship is slowly building. There's more and more pro-social play showing now between them: the magic juice of all relationships.

This is where they communicate the most - building boundaries and trust. The word play is soooo under rated!

27/06/2024

Playing out and about in the stream. Pretty much full submersion for Pog at times 🤣.

Good morning lovely people 😘
Is it better to react to a bad behaviour, or to regulate it? Answers below 👇

25/06/2024

Co-regulation is our ability to connect our nervous system with our dogs to foster a healthy relationship based on love and trust.

By co-regulating with our dogs, our nervous systems share the same rhythm, and we can create a feeling of calm and comfort.

More on this to come!

There is a little coffee shop, where two people arrive and approached the counter.

“Five coffees please. Two for us and three hanging.”

They paid, they took their two coffees and left.

I asked the waiter. "What’s this about hanging coffees?"

“Wait and you'll see."

Some more people came in.

Two girls asked for a coffee each, they paid & left.

The following order was for seven coffees and it was made by three women - ‘three for them and four hanging coffees.’

I was left wondering...what is the meaning of the hanging coffees, they leave.

Then, a man dressed in worn clothes, who looks like he might be homeless, arrives at the counter and asks sincerely...

“Do you have a coffee hanging?"

“Yes we do, sir.”

They serve him a coffee.... I got my answer.

People pay in advance for a coffee that will be served to whoever can't afford a hot drink.

This tradition started in Naples.

Amazingly, it has spread throughout the world’s cities and towns.

It’s also possible to order not only "hanging coffees" but also a sandwich or a full low cost meal.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could all start doing this in the cities and towns where we live?

Small kindnesses like this can impact so many lives, in ways we could never imagine.

Maybe we should all try it.😊❤️

This week is being spent at the wolf and dog development centre, learning more from this beautiful young pack of wolves. So much I will be bringing back to the salon to help all the dogs we groom cope and deal with what can be a very stressful process to them . The grooming can put a lot of pressure on the dog some of it simply is just too much for some dogs, so working with each dog as an individual and providing the time to give the right connections to help ur dogs through the groom is key X

So this week I am based at the dog and wolf development centre in Cornwall, learning from the masters in connection the wolf family. And this time with the pure joy juice of meeting 7 wolf cubs to test my unconditional connection. Exploring our emotions when with the cubs and adult wolves, helps us as groomers learn the art of regulating our nervous system to be able to help and calm for the dogs we are working with. Exploring our triggers to behaviours and bringing awareness to them is the start in the healing process. Leading to a deaper connection and understanding to all the dogs we work with.
Here's a sneak peak of the week so far X

How are you and your dogs keeping?

We are all well - Kate and April are working alternate days at the salon to keep up together with dogs requiring welfare grooms and Hayley is still keeping busy with home schooling and looking forward to returning to work once her two children are back at school!

We just wanted to touch base with an update on how we are working and how we aim to work going forward. As mentioned above, we are currently only grooming dogs that fall into the 'welfare' category, this includes dogs that are matted or becoming matted, those with skin allergies which will become worse if they are not bathed/groomed on regular basis or dogs with very long nails. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any concerns about your dog or feel they are suffering as a result of not being groomed. At the moment and for the foreseeable, all pre-booked appointments are cancelled as we will have a lot of missed appointments to catch up on when lockdown has eased. Rest assured that we will be in contact with everyone who has missed an appointment within the next month to reschedule.

In the meantime, keep brushing your dogs and please do contact us if you need any advice, equipment or have any health concerns with your dogs.

Let's hope we can resume some sort of normality soon. We can't wait to catch up with you and your dogs soon 😊

Take care

Hi all

Hope you are well.

So, lockdown number 3 here at Cottage Canine Grooming is very different for each member of the team in order to keep us all safe....Kate is currently the only one grooming at the moment and therefore working alone, she is just about coping without Hayley and April but is enjoying the peace and quiet haha! Kate is only grooming dogs for welfare/medical reasons and only those that fall into this category. April is currently furloughed. As some of you are aware, April is due to get married this year, she is remaining positive that this will still go ahead and using her extra time to get her body 'wedding fit' by doing a Hitt session and 2 hours of walking each day! Phew, I am exhausted just thinking about it! Hayley has her own battles as she is home schooling her two young children - she would, without a doubt, much rather swap places with Kate and be grooming your lovely dogs than home schooling! Hayley is also doing much more eating than keeping fit!!

As many of you will remember during the first Lockdown (March 2020), we had to close for almost 2 months thus meaning some dogs missed several appointments. This time, we are allowed to remain open for welfare reasons, I (Kate) am currently working on a week by week basis which includes me looking through the diary of missed appointments and contacting those with dogs that I feel may be becoming matted and/or suffering with skin issues due to not being professionally groomed. I will be contacting those that fall into these categories. Please be aware that I have to prioritise those with woolly/thick/double coats that are at risk of forming uncomfortable matts, unfortunately that means those with thin/wiry/rough coats are not classed as essential and will have to wait until we are out of Lockdown . We are currently working approximately 2 weeks behind on appointments so please be patient, I will be in contact with those I feel are getting to the essential stage.

In the meantime, please brush your dogs daily. See below link for grooming demo

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you need any advice or have concerns at all for your dogs welfare.

Thank you again for your understanding and patience.

Hello all

Hope you are keeping safe and well.

Re the latest Lockdown and what these measures mean for dog groomers. Unfortunately we can only remain open for welfare issues and have to cancel all regular grooming appointments until at least 15th February. If you are concerned that your dog may need to see us to prevent a welfare issue (matted coat, a**l gland issues, overly long nails) then please get in contact and we can can assess your situation.

Following the latest government guidelines, we have been advised that we can only groom dogs for animal welfare reasons, rather than aesthetic purposes, therefore we can only groom dogs where the welfare is at risk, this includes if the dog is heavily matted, nails growing into the pads etc. We can basically only groom your dog for medical/health reasons if deemed absolutely necessary. You would also need to deem your travel to us absolutely necessary for welfare/health of your dog especially as the governments main message is to stay at home and only travel when necessary.

Just to reiterate, all appointments will be cancelled, unless deemed a welfare issue until further notice. Please contact us via email or call us on 07870855834 if you have any questions or wish to discuss anything outlined above.

We will be in contact to rearrange missed appointments once we have some clarity on when this lockdown will ease.

In the meantime please brush your dogs regularly - we have grooming equipment available to purchase should you need it. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or require any advice.

Take care of yourselves and we hope to see you and your dogs very soon.
