Our star of the week! 🌟

Gorgeous 6 month old Ronnie was brought in to us with vomiting earlier this week.
The vet thought they could feel something not quite right in his abdomen but x-rays weren’t conclusive. We kept him in for the day on fluids and medication and then had him back the next day to repeat the x-rays. The second lots of x-rays showed that nothing was really moving through Ronnie’s digestive system indicating there may be a blockage.
The decision was made to perform surgery and we removed parts of two licky-matts from Ronnie’s digestive tract!

We always reccomend animals are supervised when playing with toys or using activity feeders, as even the most well behaved pets can get a little over zealous and ingest parts they shouldn’t.

Thankfully Ronnie’s owners acted quickly and all pieces of licky-matt have now been removed and Ronnie is making a full recovery! He’s been an absolute pleasure to look after and we’ve all fallen in love with him!

Super proud of these 2 lovely ladies who have both graduated with their Veterinary Nurse qualifications today!

Megan, in the first photo, worked as a student with us for 2 years attending college once a week to achieve her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. Megan has happily decided to stay on at Woodlands as an RVN.

Katie, in the second photo, completed a year placement with us as part of her BSc Honours degree in veterinary nursing. Katie has a job as an RVN back in her home town.

Both of these ladies have worked incredibly hard to achieve their qualifications and we know they’ll go on to have great careers in Veterinary Nursing.

Congratulations Megan and Katie!

Please if you’re planning a bonfire make sure you build on the day or if you’ve pre-built that you check/move it before you light. Your bonfire stack makes a great place for hedgies to hunker down in but we do not want them to run the risk of being burned.

From 6am on 1st November 2024 until 6am on 6th November, Sky will be broadcasting a special fireworks channel for dogs on 310. There will be a rolling cycle of 21 different movies that have been chosen because they have a calming effect on dogs and their owners. These include Barbie, the Bridget Jones trilogy, E.T. and Shrek 1, because according to the broadcaster any movies that keep owners calm and entertained will help their dogs as well.

We’ve sadly had a deceased entire male tabby cat handed in to us at our Brockworth branch this afternoon. The cat wasn’t chipped and is a known stray people have nicknamed ‘Stripe’.
I apologise I don’t have a location for where he was found.

If you have any information, please contact the surgery.

Fireworks have already been going off in people’s gardens but here are the planned firework displays happening over the next week.

Make sure you have your safe space set up for your pets and that you have any calming rememdies or medication that you need ahead of time.

Walk pets before dusk, get cats and small furries inside and make sure pets are wearing collar identification and that your chip details are up to date.

Keep windows and curtains closed and make sure you have the TV or radio on to mask some of the firework noise.

If you need any advice or support during the firework season, please get in touch with us.

Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss. Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry. Their burgundy coats also act as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that their partner is deaf.

Donations raised through Pennies when you pay by card here at Woodlands help support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Just a small donation can make a big difference!
