After weeks of long days, the old unit is finally cleared.

Thank you to everyone who’s helped, and thanks to everyone who continues to support us, it’s been and continues to be a very difficult time for us. Hopefully things will settle down a bit now and we can find our new permanent home 🏠

You all remember the staffy/frenchie that needed rehoming a couple of weeks ago?
He’s been with his new family for 3 weeks and is settling into his new routine. With lots of ongoing training he’s much calmer and happier.,
Sometimes dogs just aren’t with the right people but Blue has definitely found his 🥰

Ever wondered why your dog eats other dog p**p? 💩
It’s pretty gross and we can get ourselves stressed about it. I’m aware that there are a few suggestions for stopping it such as feeding your dog pineapple but not sure how successful that actually is.

The question is though, why do they do it? Dogs are pretty clever at selecting what they need if given the opportunity. One of my rescues will seek out the fertile soil in tree roots, she must need the extra nutrients and soil based prebiotics.

But back to p**p!
Coprophagy or eating p**p, is thought to increase vitamin k absorption.
Deficiency is usually associated with malabsorption, often in dogs with ibd or epi, also dogs who’ve received antibiotic therapy.

So, maybe the answer is increase the levels of pre and probiotics in your dogs diet. This will help the gut recover the important balance of gut bacteria and aid digestion.
Prebiotics, are soluble fibre that feed the gut bacteria. These include:

Mushrooms
Garlic (small amounts)
Dandelion greens
Chicory root (or you can use Inulin powder)
Oats - porridge made with water
Bananas
Cooked greens
Avocado
Barley
Cooked Sweet potatoes
Apples

Probiotics (healthy bacteria) include:

Green tripe
Kefir
Probiotic yogurt
Cottage cheese and other fermented foods such as sauerkraut and Kimchi
Saccharomyces boulardii (S. Boulardii) which is a healthy soil based yeast. There are products on the market containing this such as Four Leaf Rover.

First week in our temporary unit, feels really strange working in such a small space and I have to say I’m really missing the contact with everyone 🥹 we’ve had a few of you just pop by and grab some food without a preorder, just to say this is absolutely fine!
If you want to just pop in without preordering just turn up 2-6pm Monday to Thursday 2-5 Friday and we’ll let you have a peak in the walk in maybe 🤣

Don’t forget I’m not around on a Saturday in Cinderford at the moment but we’re over at Hanley farm today from 10-4pm 😊
You could grab yourself a cheeky coffee and cake while you’re over there 😁

What a few weeks 😅 they say stress is good for you right 🥴
Anyhow, we are all moved into the new unit in Cinderford. Most people have found us but if you don’t know already, we’re located at OCDetaling, map attached.

If you need food, please come over and ring the bell between 2-6pm and someone will come out and serve you.

We have plenty of Finer by nature and Vom in stock. Bones, chunks,,fish. TPMS arriving tomorrow, Amman Valley meats sold out in 2 days 🤪 so more arriving Saturday. Still waiting for confirmation of southcliffe but hoping it will be with us tomorrow.

Amman Raw 🤩
Fantastic new range - the poultry and tripe is all from organically reared livestock, the beef and lamb from free range grass fed welsh cattle and sheep.
Ours have eaten lovely chunky boneless beef mince and green tripe tonight. Great consistency and comes out of the pack nicely.
1kg chubs are £2.10 and the 500g chubs are £1.30 offering fantastic value and quality.

We also have Amman valley liver, kidney and heart chunks plus lovely looking lamb ribs.

If you need to stock up this week we’ll be at the new unit (OCDetailing, just above Ross pastries) from 2-6pm Monday to friday 😊 just ring the bell 🔔

Many of our dogs will be freaking out this weekend during the dreaded fireworks season.
Only a couple of mine are frightened, so I’ll be loudly playing dance tunes to dull out the sound and adding camomile tea to my dogs food during the weekend.

Copied from another post but vital information.

I saw a kid walking his lovely lab having a great time and then he gave him a big old yank on the lead, which was on a collar and my heart did that achy breaky thing.

Underneath that strong looking neck, are some vital life supporting structures connecting your dog’s gut and nervous system to the brain.

If you have a big dog that lunges or pulls on the lead, a collar is not going to stop him. A harness is not going to make him lunge or pull more. However, it will distribute his weight through a part of the body designed to protect the organs instead of the full pressure being on the neck and all it contains.

A yank on the lead can cause emotional associations that lead to behaviour issues and pressure around the neck can cause multiple physical injuries some terminal.

Neck injuries include bruising, whiplash, headaches, crushed trachea, damage to the larynx, fractured vertebrae, neck and spinal cord injury and paralysis or neurological problems.

If the parasympathetic nervous system is tweaked through a tug to the neck the vagal reflex can cause instant death.

Higher intraocular pressure can cause serious injury to dogs already suffering thin corneas, glaucoma, or eye injuries.

It has also been linked to hypothyroidism as the collar rests on the area of the thyroid gland causing damage.

It can impinge the nerves supplying the front legs leading to an abnormal sensation in the feet that can present as a dog that starts licking their feet. Often misdiagnosed as having allergies.

A dog's epidermis is only 3-5 cells thick, in humans it is at least 10-15 cells thick.

Excessive pressure can cause damage to the dog's eyes, larynx and thyroid gland.

Particularly risky for puppies under 6 months, a time during which the cartilage of the trachea is still delicate.

A dog that feels pain and discomfort on saying hello to another dog, or trying to sniff the environment, is in danger of associating other dogs or other stimuli in the environment with pain and discomfort resulting in a dog that we would label “reactive” and/or “aggressive” when on lead, “but ok when off lead”.

Bobi 😢

Is there ever enough time 💔? I think not.

Last night, this sweet boy earned his wings 🕊️.

Despite outliving every dog in history, his 11,478 days on earth would never be enough, for those who loved him. When we asked Leonel what his recipe was for Bobi’s exceptionally long life, his response was swift: “Good nutrition, constant contact with nature, freedom to discover his environment, consistent veterinary care, and love. Bobi knows he’s deeply loved.”

Godspeed, Bobi…you’ve taught the world all you were mean’t to teach 🐾❤️‍🔥🌈.

Quick move update!

Our freezer engineer is due to assemble the walk in freezer Thursday 26th at the new unit.
As long as everything goes smoothly we should be operational from there from Monday 30th October.

If the 3-6pm collection times don’t work for you we can deliver instead or just message and we’ll try and accommodate you.

Please bare with us over the next week or so - we will need to run the walk in freezer low so that it can be dismantled next week.

During this time please be kind - We are a small business, trying to remain operational during a hugely challenging time. We only ask that you are as polite to us as we are to you and support us.

Today we have plenty of Vom, Reggies, TPMS, limited Southcliffe plus fish and bones.

Move Update 🚛

We will be moving out of our existing unit in the next month and will be operating from two locations.
Our shop at Hanley Farm is now fully operational and open, this is a lovely little shop right next to the canine hydrotherapy centre. There is a farm shop and coffee shop to the front which is a lovely place to stop and do a bit of retail therapy, and get a caffeine and cake fix!

The shop we had identified in Cinderford is sadly not going to be suitable and with time against us we have decided to move into a unit just around the corner for the short term until something more permanent comes up. The new unit is a shared space and will only be for deliveries and collections.
To make things simple you will be able to order online via the website, via the email or you can call/text 07824359451 and we can process the order.

Orders within a 10 miles radius will be FREE! For local Forest of Dean orders, we will aim to deliver to you much more quickly then our current schedule.

The Cinderford store will be open for collections Monday - friday from 3-6pm. If you need food outside of these times, or need an emergency supply because you’ve realised the freezer is empty then just call or text and we will likely be able to accommodate! 😁
Please let us know if these collection times don’t suit you, we can always review this.

Our new addresses are below, we will update you once we have a firm date for the Cinderford move, it’s likely to be in 2-3 weeks.

We have added a new “shop by brand” section to the website which should help you navigate more easily 😊 check it out and let us know your thoughts.

purée baby food veg pack 😊
Adding eggs are a great source of calcium, phosphorus and importantly vitamin D. Dogs are not able to synthesise vitamin D through sunlight therefore need it to be added to their food, via free range eggs and eating outdoor reared meat.
Fruit and veg are a valuable source of vitamins and antioxidants. These little tubes of puréed goodness are a quick and easy way to add them ☺️
