Gorgeous girl Mabel came along to see our Registered Veterinary Nurse today for a post operative check following her spay earlier this week.
She has been recovering really well, with a wonderful tiny surgical wound that is healing super fast.
Not being able to interfere with a surgical wound is very important, and when you present wearing a donut anti-lick collar, we're obviously going to be impressed and need to share a photo with everyone 😁 What do you think?!

Last Sunday (almost all of) our fantastic team at Chessington Vets got to enjoy a wild adventure at Chessington World Of Adventures! 🐅🦏🦒
We are so thankful to our Head Veterinary Nurse and the Zoo Team for organising this treat for us 🙏
It was interesting to learn how the animals receive veterinary treatment too, when needed.
Feeding a tiger, brushing a rhino and standing tall with the giraffes - something we'll never forget 😁

I wonder if your small cat is as well trained as this beautiful tiger? 😄

How adorable is little kitten Roxy?!
Roxy came in last week for her second vaccination, therefore completing her primary vaccination course and now only requiring annual boosters 💪
Our vets keep an eye on which vaccinations are due each year, as some components are repeated annually, whereas some are only every 3 years.

Vet Kenza wanted a little cuddle with Roxy before she went home 🤗

Remi came to visit us last week. She loved exploring her cosy bed, and was very affectionate towards our team ❤️

This absolutely beautiful boy is Bertie ❤
Bertie's lovely owners had felt some lumps on his side and brought him in for them to be checked
Our fantastic vet Michael performed a Fine needle Aspirate or FNA of the lumps
This is a procedure where a small needle is put into the lump, a syringe is used to suck out (aspirate) cells from the lump 💉
These are then transferred to a microscope slide for the cells to be examined to determine what kind of lump it is
It looks very much from the samples taken today that these are harmless fatty lumps or "lipomas"
If you notice your pet has any lumps or bumps, please do get them checked out!

Hot Weather Alert for Pet Owners! 🐾
As temperatures rise, it's important to remember that our dogs feel the heat even more than we do. What might seem like a pleasant summer walk can quickly turn dangerous—or even deadly—for your furry friend.
🔥 Why It’s Risky:
Pavement burns: If the ground is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for their paws. Asphalt can reach 130°F (54°C) or more on a 90°F (32°C) day.
Heatstroke: Dogs can't sweat like we do. They cool down by panting, which isn't enough in extreme heat. Heatstroke can come on fast and can be fatal.
Dehydration: Long walks in the sun increase the risk of dehydration, especially for flat-faced breeds like pugs and bulldogs.
🚫 Avoid walking your dog during the hottest parts of the day (typically 10 AM – 6 PM). Opt for early morning or late evening walks when the pavement and air are cooler.
✅ Tips to Keep Your Dog Safe:
Walk on grass when possible
Always bring water
Keep walks short
Never leave your dog in a parked car, even for a minute
Watch for signs of heat stress: heavy panting, drooling, weakness, confusion, or vomiting
Your dog relies on you to keep them safe—let’s make sure summer is fun, not fatal. 🐶💛

🌈 Found Deceased Cat – Chessington Area 🌈

Late last night a kind member of the public brought a cat in to us that was sadly found deceased in the Chessington area.

He is an entire male tabby and unfortunately does not have a microchip, which makes locating his owners more difficult.

We are now trying to find his family to offer them some closure during this difficult time.

If you think this could be your cat, or know someone who is missing a male tabby in the area, please get in touch with us:

Please share this post to help us reach his owners. 🐾

🐾 Meet the Team – Pet Edition! 🐾
Today we’re excited to introduce Niamh, our amazing new Veterinary Care Assistant (VCA) here at DNA Vets! 💚

Niamh recently joined our team and brings with her a big heart, great energy—and a seriously adorable crew of pets! Let’s meet them…

🐍 Freddie is Niamh’s calm and curious royal python, rehomed 3 years ago after his previous owners could no longer care for him. He’s incredibly placid and loves being handled every day. His favourite spot? Wrapped gently around the back of Niamh’s neck and shoulders, watching the world go by! 👀🥰

🐈‍ Diego is 9 months old and full of personality! This cheeky little guy was found as a stray kitten in Peckham on Christmas Day last year. Niamh was working at a different clinic at the time—and it was love at first sight. One week later, Diego had found his forever home. He adores sofa cuddles, getting into mischief, and (most of all) FOOD! 🐟🎄

🐱 Tiptoe, a beautiful 10-year-old domestic long-haired cat, has been part of Niamh’s life since she was 9 years old. On Christmas morning, she woke up to find tiny Tiptoe had been left by Santa himself! 🎅🏻💕 Tiptoe is a sweet and affectionate lady who knows her boundaries. Her two favourite things? The occasional sq**rt of whipped cream and sunbathing on the porch in the summer sun ☀️🌅

We’re so thrilled to have Niamh on our team—and it’s clear her love for animals runs deep. Be sure to say hello if you see her around the practice!

☀️🐾 Summer Pet Safety Tips 🐾☀️

Summer is here, and while we all love the sunshine, it’s important to keep our furry friends safe in the heat! Here are a few top tips from the team at Chessington Veterinary Surgery to help your pets stay cool and comfortable this season:

🌡 Avoid the heat of the day
Walk your dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler. Hot pavements can burn paws—if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet!

💧 Keep them hydrated
Always make sure your pets have access to fresh, cool water—whether at home or out and about.

🚗 Never leave pets in cars
Even with the windows open, cars can become dangerously hot in minutes. It's just not worth the risk.

🏖 Watch out for heatstroke
Signs include heavy panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse. If you’re ever worried, call us immediately.

🧊 Cool-down options
Offer shaded areas, cooling mats, and frozen pet-friendly treats to help beat the heat.

Let’s make it a fun, safe summer for everyone—including our four-legged family members! 🌴🐶🐱

If you have any questions or concerns, give us a call or pop in—we’re always happy to help. 💚
