Why do we recommend Underwater Treadmill Therapy as opposed to pool based Hydrotherapy?
💦🐾Why do we recommend Underwater Treadmill Therapy as opposed to pool based Hydrotherapy? 💦🐾
🐶 Underwater Treadmill Therapy helps re-educate a patients gait to build up and target specific muscle groups which as sessions progress the corrected alignment will transfer onto land due to to weightlessness and gait adjustments in sessions
🐶 It is more difficult to target specific muscle mass build up and muscle groups in pool based sessions due to misalignment of the limbs when swimming, even with comete non weight bearing. Therefore we find underwater treadmill based therapy generally more effective in early stages of rehabilitation.
🐶 We can offer both pool and underwater treadmill based sessions but find many of our patients start in the underwater treadmill and progress onto pool based sessions.
🐾We often get asked ‘why is my dog moving so slowly in the underwater treadmill?’.......We change the patients speeds of our underwater treadmill to accommodate the most effective to build up the targeted muscle mass: which is usually a very steady pace as opposed to a fast pace where patients fall easily into a compensatory gait pattern, don’t engage the muscle groups we are aiming to build up & the process becomes ineffective🐾
If you have any questions feel free to ask any of our qualified and experienced rehabilitation specialists! 😃
