🎄 ❤️ The very sweet Ollie after his treadmill session today. Ollie has been coming for regular hydrotherapy sessions after bilateral TPLO surgery and has made huge improvements. Ollie’s owner has been extremely dedicated with his rehab plan and they are now able to enjoy longer walks together ❤️ ….just in time for Christmas! 🎄

🎇 This might help all those dogs whom are more noise sensitive and might be worth a try…..we’ve never tried it ourselves but found low level white noise helps!

💦 🐾 Some of our doggy customers do these ‘underwater retrieves’ voluntarily after a treat or toy in the water but they actually have a very interesting purpose to cool the dog down as blood flow is mainly in this area when dogs overheat! 🐾🩷

As summers continue to get warmer year-over-year, new research from the Penn Vet Working Dog Center (PVWDC) reveals the best way to prevent dogs from overheating.

After comparing various cooling methods, researchers found when a dog voluntarily submerged their head in clean, room-temperature water to retrieve a treat or toy, they not only cooled off faster, but also avoided dangerous post-exercise temperature spikes.

“During heat stress, blood flow to the head, nose, tongue, and ears is increased,” said Cynthia M. Otto, VMD, PhD, lead author of the study and executive director of the PVWDC. “Cooling the tissues of the head allows for rapid cooling of the whole body with limited amounts of water.”

🐾🌟FREE CANINE 1st AID🌟🐾 at Northwest Surgeons - a popular Cheshire animal hospital is holding free dog first aid clinics in May where dog owners can learn vital techniques that could save the life of their four-legged friend in an emergency.

The three evenings at Linnaeus-owned Northwest Veterinary Specialists (NWVS) in Runcorn also coincide with Veterinary Nursing Awareness Month (VNAM), which aims to raise awareness of the importance of the role of registered veterinary nurses.

Dog owners attending the free dog first aid sessions at NWVS will learn the principles of first aid, wounds/bandaging and common medical emergencies. With the support of the nursing team, owners will then have the opportunity to practice CPR and bandaging on animal models.

The three dog first aid client evenings take place at NWVS on Wednesday May 8, 15 and 22, from 6.15pm to 8.30pm.
