Ralphie!

A big part of dog training is also helping change owners' behaviours!

Many owners who have reactive dogs fall into bad habits of avoiding situations and other dogs 🐕

As part of training, I help owners with their confidence, which in turn helps their dogs!

In the last session with Ralphie we worked on his lead reactivity and loose lead walking. This session, we worked on recall and ignoring dogs.

He and his owner did great 😃

Big Bear!

His owner booked a session with me after using another trainer before me and not seeming to get anywhere 😢

This lad has energy for days and was hard work walking on the lead, especially if cars were passing!!

An hour later here he is doing a down stay next to a road with cars passing by! 👌

Great work bear 🐻

Do you remember Charlie?

I'm his fourth trainer as he would go ballistic at other dogs from 100s of meters away to the point he actually pulled his owners over in the past! 😔

This is session three with working with me and well..... watch the video and decide for yourself 😃

This cheeky chap has been making his owners life hard work!

From barking anytime someone walks past the house, barking at dogs while on his walk and not wanting to let his owners leave the house!
It was fair to say his owners needed some help 😔

An hour later, reduced barking with people passing and the door knocking, walking past other dogs calmly and quietly, and also a plan and home work for his owners so they can leave the house without him!

Not bad if I do say so myself 😉

Exciting news!!

This year is going to get even busier 😲

I have been asked by John at The K9 Pad in Cheshire to be their referral behaviourist!

Along with my own business, I will be running their behavioural assessments, behaviour sessions at the centre, one to one training throughout the UK as well as assisting on residential training programmes.

But don't worry! Nothing changes with my business 😉
So you can keep booking your sessions with me as usual 😄

Merry Christmas!! (even if it's a few days late 🤣)

I've been trying to have some time away from my phone over the holidays, as with sorting bookings, etc, it can be pretty full on. However, back to service as usual!

Here is Boden looking very happy with himself with the goodies from Santa 🎅 😉

I'm not sure if he quite understands the part that it said they are for 'all the boys' 🤔

Chester Christmas Market!

These two had a session around Chester today, working on their distraction in a busy environment!

They were both amazing and had plenty of compliments from passers by saying how well behaved they were 😉

Great session today
Well done, you two! 👏

Charlie, the rescue!

His owners booked a session with me as they were at a loss with what to do with him due to his reactivity towards other dogs 😔

After multiple other trainers before me with no progress seen. One even said,'There is nothing I can do for you'

They decided to call in the professional 😉 😄
Less than half an hour later, he was happily walking past my spaniel, Boden!

He went from lunging, barking, snarling, and pulling his owners over. To calm, loose lead walking with a dog no more than 2 meters away!

Well done, Charlie 👏

Dougie, the Cavapoo!

He's been having sessions for his excitabilty and his reactivity towards other dogs!

His owner started with another trainer before me, who promised the world but didn't seem to deliver 😕

His owner is doing great with him and is able to pass dogs without reaction!!

Part of training is also helping owners with their confidence and their own ability 👏

Great work from this pair!

Rosie, the Springer!

I have not uploaded many videos and pictures lately, simply for the reason I forget to take them!

Rosie has not long been rehomed by her new owner, and after being told she was fully trained, it came as a bit of a shock when she wouldn't walk on a lead or come back when called!

So we started with lead work, then worked up to starting recall!

I would have even been tempted to have her myself 😲
I'm sure Boden would love a girlfriend 🙄 😆

Yes, you read that title correctly....

This country seems to be getting madder by the day 😕

Now, should dogs be under control in a public place? Yes absolutely

Should people feel safe being around dogs?
Again absolutely

Should people be banned from walking their well-mannered, under control dogs around public places because it might offend some people?
I will let you answer that one!

Don't let those eyes fool you! 😆

This lad had a session to work on some friction between him and the owners other dog. 🐕

A combination of an older dog used to having all the attention, and a puppy not reading dog language and being rather boisterous had resulted in some conflict between the two!

After we had worked on that, we also gave pup some training in general manners and obedience 😃

He's going to be big!!

A cheeky Goldendoodle!

He was becoming hard working for his owners, with jumping up, pulling on the lead, as well as some general teenage behaviours!

After stopping the jumping up at home, it was then time to work on his loose lead walking.

He picked it up really quickly, and within 10 minutes, he was walking next to his owners with no tension on his lead 👏

His owners couldn't believe it was the same dog 😆 😂

Arlo!

His owners booked a session to work on his loose lead walking, recall, and to working on his focus around distractions.

After half an hour, he was walking on a loose lead, checking in with his owner 😃

We then went to the busy local park to tackle his recall, especially around other dogs 🐕

He did great and was very tired by the end of his session 😄

BONFIRE NIGHT 🔥 🎆

Once again, it is that time of year!
Here are a few helpful tips for dogs and owners

1. Try and avoid having your dog outside between the hours of 5pm and 11pm. If you need to feed your dog earlier than usual so they can have the chance to toilet before it goes dark.

2. If you need to take your dog outside in the dark, keep them on a short lead connected properly.

3. Try to use a single room in the house to help contain the dog (a dog running from room to room will cause more stress). If your dog is crate trained, use your crate. Close all the blinds/curtains, turn on all the lights, turn radio/TV up a few more levels than you usually would.

4. If you hear fireworks, do not acknowledge anything is going on. If you start stressing, your dog will start stressing. Also, if your dog does look concerned as hard as it might be, avoid trying to comfort them, and you are far better to distract them or have them do some training exercises. Send them to their bed/place and reward etc, fetch, sits and downs etc to have your dog engage with you rather than worry about the noises.

5. Bonfire night can work to your advantage as a form of environmental training, desensitisation to bangs and flashes will make your dog more well rounded and also less likely to panic if you encounter any of these out on walks etc, away for bonfire night.

6. Some herbal remedies can help, such as scullcap and valerian. However, it is important to note that if using these to follow the other steps as well.

7. Preparation is key. The more desensitisation you can do throughout the year, the easier it is.

Ronnie!

He, like many others lately, had been having sessions with another trainer, and his owners did not feel like they were getting anywhere, unfortunately, aswell as receiving some questionable advice 😕

So his owners called me in for a second chance at training.
He had issues with people coming to the house as well as some reactivity out on the walk. A common issue I deal with on a daily basis.

An hour later, we were walking through a busy town with no reactions, along with him happily, taking himself off to his bed with me in the house!

His owners were so happy with the progress they booked me in for a second session while I was there!

A win all round 👏 😁
