🐰🐰🐰🐰This week is Rabbit Awareness Week. 🐰🐰🐰🐰

We will be posting snippets of advice daily throughout the week to help with day to day care of our fluffy friends. We are starting the week with Flystrike.

Flystrike happens more often in warm weather, and in
rabbits who have soiled fur (often due to poor diet, obesity
or arthritis).
Throughout the spring and summer rabbits must be
checked twice daily and any soiled fur cleaned. If you find
any sign of fly eggs or maggots you must arrange for your
rabbit to see a vet as soon as possible.

This week is Diabetes Awareness Week - did you know
your furry friends can get diabetes too?

Diabetes causes levels of glucose (sugar) in the blood to be
persistently high. Normally when blood glucose levels increase, the
pancreas releases a hormone called insulin which adds in a number
of ways to lower the blood glucose and prevent it from getting too
high.

We've been busy at all 3 sites over the last few month's with lots of lovely pets who've come to stay with us for the day for various operations.
We love making your pet feel at ease whilst they stay with us and you'll notice from the pictures some of our pets have come with their own blankets or toys ☺️. We always try to recommend to bring something that smells familiar to your pet whilst they are in with us for the day to help them feel comforted in an unfamiliar environment 🥰.
So if your pet is in for an operation soon please feel free to bring a blanket or toy that they are familiar with along with them 💚💙💜❤🧡💛

As May marks Veterinary Nurse Awareness Month we thought we'd share some photos of our lovely nurses in action.
Our nurses love to be on hand to show your pet love, and also to comfort them when they are afraid. Whether they are just in for a consult or whether they are in with us for the day, our nurses are always there making sure they are well loved and looked after.
A lot of what our nurses do is unseen by our clients but they are always around somewhere working hard.
Below are some photos that explain briefly all the roles that our nurses do throughout the day
🐱🐶🐰🩺💊💉
So we just want to say well done to all our Registered Veterinary Nurses/Student Veterinary Nurses and our Patient Care Assistants.
We see how hard you work to maintain gold standard 🎖care and we appreciate you! ❤️‍🩹

Are you looking to travel abroad with your pet this summer? If you are, you will be required to obtain an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for them.
An AHC needs to be issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV). Check with your veterinary practice to see if they have a qualified OV because not every practice will have one.

Are you taking your pet on holiday this summer? 😎

Our pets are part of the family and we want to share fun experiences with them – including taking them on holiday!
While this often results in great fun and wonderful memories, there are a few things to consider first. A bit of planning beforehand goes a long way towards making it a positive experience for everyone.

02/05/2024

With the Bank Holiday weekend fast approaching, please can we remind our clients to put through their food/medication requests if needed! 📞

All three of our clinics will be closed on Monday 6th May, with all phone calls being diverted to our designated out of hours providers (Springfield and Priory Vets) 🐶

We hope that all our lovely clients enjoy the long weekend! ☺️

With the new cat microchipping legislation in England coming in on 10 June 2024, if a have a new kitten, you may be wondering when you would need to get them microchipped by.
All cats need to microchipped by the time they are 20 weeks of age, this could be done during their neutering procedure so it can be placed easily and they do not feel it.

Meet Rosco… our Practice Manager’s Chihuahua! 🐶

Rosco is nearly 5 years old but still had some of his baby teeth (also known as deciduous teeth) so he was admitted for a small procedure to remove them. Removing the baby teeth fixes the over-crowding, which can lead to tartar build-up, and also reduces the risk of dental issues in the future 🦷

The operating vet, Jess, took some X-rays of Rosco’s mouth to check the roots of the baby teeth and to make sure that all of his adult teeth were healthy. You’ll see from the X-rays that the majority of dogs teeth are under the surface of the gums so X-rays help our vets assess the health of the whole tooth.

Whilst under anaesthetic, Rosco also had the rest of his teeth cleaned, so he now has sparkly pearly whites! 😁 He was a star patient from start to finish and it hasn’t deterred him from coming to the clinic to visit the team! 🥰
