Super quiet day today - do I lose a lot of income when it's like this - absolutely! But I will always put the dogs first no matter what - dogs have never died from missing a walk but soo many die from heat stroke every year - common sense goes out the window - it might not be blazing sunshine but the humidity plays a huge factor for a lot of dogs and I'd rather be safe than sorry any day! 🧡🐾

🌞🐾 Hot weather policy 🐾🌞

Looks like we have a few days of high temps on the way this week and as always your dogs health is my priority.

I'm aiming to continue with the morning groups but will be starting a bit earlier going to cooler woody areas and may well be cut short if any of the dogs are not happy. Dogs who I know will struggle will have walks cancelled until it's cooler.

The afternoon groups will be cancelled and swapped to pop ins if no one is at home.
I'm aiming to be in touch today but by all means let me know any preferences

Almost a year to the day I posted last year - ticks are once again causing a nuisance. As I have a couple of on-lead reactive dogs I do a lot of walks where we don't see many people /dogs - It's quiet - the dogs get a full hour off lead but unfortunately I do know it's also deer land. Well pathed but the dogs do go off into fields /long grass & undergrowth. Today has been particularly troublesome - many apologies to the customers who have had extra work getting the little blighters off! Dogs are rubbed down at the end - I'm more than happy to remove any attached and carry the tick twisters and I am very vigilant in spotting them but obviously some are going to be missed due to colour /coats. The van is sprayed weekly anyway as a precaution but this will now be done daily to hopefully catch any loose ones.
Please ensure your dog is upto date with flea & tick treatments as a precaution.

A lovely post about....Ticks 😬 This year does seem to be a good year for them unfortunately, I've been taking them off my own since early feb thanks to a wet / mild winter and now a very wet / mild spring they are definitely on the increase.

I do walk dogs in the more quieter areas with long grass and I do know there are deer around.
Owners please :
* Check your pet for ticks every day, especially after they spend time outdoors.
* Run your fingers through your pet’s fur with gentle pressure to feel for any small bumps.
* Look for ticks in the following areas:
* In and around the ears
* Around the eyelids
* Under the collar
* Under the front legs
* Between the back legs
* Between the toes
* Around the tail

Tick twisters are very cheap and excellent at removing the little blighters.

How to remove a tick from a dog:
Twisting them off your dog is the best removal method, and pet shops sell handy tick-removal devices to make this easier.
You need to be careful not to squeeze the tick’s body, or allow its head to get stuck inside your dog. Squeezing a tick’s body can cause it to expel blood back into your dog, increasing the risk of infection. Ask your vet for advice if you're worried about doing this.
1. Once you've located the tick, gently part your dog's fur so that you can easily reach the tick
2. Get your tick remover and slowly push it under the tick
3. When you have a firm grasp of the tick, twist it in a clockwise direction several times until the tick comes loose
4. Take a look at your dog's skin and make sure the tick is completely removed.

🧡🧡My little dog walking business has been going 3 years today!🎉 Thought I'd do a post about the face 'usually walking behind the dogs' As a 47yr old - mum of 3 kids / 5 dogs / 1 cat /a few chickens /animal loving /vegan/ crazy dog lady to say I am super proud of building this from scratch would be an understatement! I wanted to be a dog walker for many years but it took me a looong time to jump from the security of being a Midwife.
3 years later and I can't imagine doing anything else. Yes being a self employed dog walker has it's drawbacks - the weather & the mud. The floating up & down income, did I mention the weather & the mud 😅 being ill like today full of cold but still having to go out and it can be a pretty lonely job but I am soo thankful to my little group of fellow dog walker friends who make me laugh and keep me sane on a daily basis!
I am the busiest I've ever been so a massive thankyou to all my customers - those who have been with me from the start, past customers and new recent ones - I couldn't do it without you and your furry friends who I absolutely love to bits!🫶🏻
