Arlow’s incredible journey ❤️ a very quick version! Earlier this year, Arlow suffered a road traffic accident resulting in multiple traumatic fractures to her sacrum and pelvis. Arlow was unable to walk and in severe pain. The surgeons worked their magic and the nurses made her as comfortable as possible during her hospital stay. Within a few days Arlow was discharged and could walk with a pelvic support. Arlow also suffered with secondary neuropraxia which meant she couldn’t place her left paw down correctly and struggled to weight bear. Once settled at home, Arlow began her intense physiotherapy plan. Most important was her home care- non slip mats, cage rest, pelvic support, separated from other dogs, pain relief etc. Her physio sessions focused on increasing neurological stimulation to her left hind, slow reintroduction to walking/hindlimb weight bearing, increasing hindlimb muscle mass and reducing compensatory aches and muscle tension. Once Arlow could walk unsupported, gait re-education and hindlimb strengthening was in full swing! Arlow’s neuropraxia resolved with the help of her “toe gadget”. Many months and many vet check ups and complications down the line, Arlow is now back to her old self, running with her brothers and sisters, keeping them in check!
