Here at Quinney's we sell lots of products to eradicate fleas but did you know....

• Pets pick up fleas from infested environments where untreated pets and wildlife have been
• Just 5 fleas on an untreated pet can result in more than 1 million eggs infesting the home within a month which can take 3 months to clear so please try and be patient!
• 95% of a flea infestation problem exists in the home and not on the pet
• Fleas are often seen on treated pets, this is normal as no treatment can stop fleas jumping on the animal

Keeping these flea facts in mind it is important to regularly treat your pets and your home if necessary. See photos for some of our flea products.

As most of our customers know, we never close for long periods of time but occasionally tag an extra day to a Bank Holiday so next week we will be closed on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th May. We will reopen as normal on Wednesday at 9am.

The results are in! 🐦
9.7 million birds were counted in the 2024 RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch back in January with over 610,000 people taking part.

The top six were in the same positions as last year with the humble house sparrow at number 1. Second was blue tit, followed by starling, woodpigeon, blackbird and robin. Great tit jumped up one place to 7th swapping places with goldfinch who dropped to 8th (this one surprises us as goldfinch are the most numerous bird in our garden).
Completing the top 10 are magpie and long-tailed tit.

House sparrows are one of the UK's most widespread birds but despite this their numbers have fallen dramatically during the last fifty years and in 2002 were added to the Red List of birds of high conservation concern.

A great way to help your garden birds is to encourage insects. Why not let a patch of your garden grow wild this spring and summer?

To help you support this important event and encourage birds to nest in your garden we have a choice of ten nestbox types available (not all birds prefer the same!)
We can advise on which type to choose, the location and positioning (very important) and which birds are likely to use it 🐦🐦🐦

So we have packed our display with toys and cage accessories including lots of new ones and all reasonably priced!

Had a lovely day today watching Waxwings at Hassop Station.
This year has seen a large irruption of these stunning birds from Scandinavia and up to 300 have been recorded at Hassop. We watched them gorge on the berries, quite oblivious to the watching crowd only a few feet away. What a treat!

Our RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch Guide Pack has arrived so we are all ready to take part in the UK's largest citizen science wildlife survey from 26th - 28th January.
Last year over half a million nature lovers came together to count the birds around them to create an up-to-date snapshot of how they are faring.
Recent results have shown a dramatic decline in starlings, down by 82% since the first Birdwatch in 1979 but a 10% increase in long-tailed tit numbers over the last 10 years. Over 9.1 million birds were recorded during last year's event and once again the house sparrow retained top spot. Who knows you may even be lucky enough to encounter waxwings, rare visitors from Scandinavia that are being reported in numerous locations locally!
