We had a fabulous day on Fraisthorpe beach with Finn. Looked back at this video and can you see what we missed. I’ve never seen one before in the wild and I didn’t see it then either🤣
I’m always really honest with clients about the reality of training puppies (a steady process, full of ups and downs but kind, consistent training will get you there eventually). I came across this clip of Finn 3 years ago when I was trying film ‘training for a calm sit while clipping a lead on and off’. It made me laugh, hope you do too😃
Very happy with Finn’s verbal stop cue😊. I like to teach this as part of my more advanced ‘structuring a walk’ training. I’m always thinking about new things to offer clients so would be very happy to hear from you with anything you would find helpful.
Murphy and Finn say thank you to Simon and Jill of Hasland Pet Supplies for the lovely treats. So fab to see you at Cromford Steam Rally today ❤️💕
Loose Leash Walking
Great training session this morning with gorgeous 4 year old Bolt (Husky x Staffy). The training focussed on loose leash walking and recall. This was the result after a 1 hr one to one here at The Elms. Superb handling by Leonie on a very chilly morning 😊.
I love using ‘Find It’ to keep my dogs’ interested and in proximity on walks. I introduce this to all my puppy training clients as it can be also used to switch your puppy’s brain from crazy zoomy time to sniffing and finding. Murph is 12 next month and enjoys it just as much (if not more) than Finn😀
Finn does this every afternoon…… he watches the end of Tipping Point because he knows his dinner is at 5.00pm (just after it finishes)🤣. Murph just hovers as he’s so old and wise 😍
Highly specialised training session for Finn tonight c/o my husband😂😂
Finn having Fun😊
Teaching your dog to go around a target is not difficult to do! Finn absolutely loves this type of fun interaction but it’s actually reinforcing ‘heel’, impulse control, send-away, targeting and retrieval😁
Whistle Recall
I always advise clients to use a whistle for recall as if you consistently couple it with a ‘high value’ reward (I use cooked chicken, wet dog food or even Primula cheese fed from tube to mouth or a tug toy😊) you should get to the point where it’s an automatic response! My 18 month old, Finn responds 99.9% now and has done for months now. It’s purely down to following a step by step process and the good news is anyone can do it with their dog 😀
