That’s a wrap for 2024! 🎁

Thank you so much for a great year at Barkram’s Dog Grooming. My first full year being in my own salon & working solo. Thank you so much for the Christmas cards & gifts, it really is appreciated.

I am now back in the salon on Tuesday 7th January. Other than responding to enquires the next few days regarding nail cutting, I will be strictly turning off my work phone until Monday 6th Jan & all enquires will be responded to then.

🍫 DOGS AND CHOCOLATE 🍫

As it’s getting to that time of year where there will probably be more chocolate in your household as normal, I thought it was important to write a post on dogs & chocolate.

As most people know, chocolate is highly toxic to dogs. It contains theobromine & the darker the chocolate, the more theobromine. The toxic dose varies on the size of your dog & the solid cocoa content of the chocolate.

Symptoms of chocolate poisoning are:

Shivering
Excessive thirst or dehydration
Diarrhoea
Stomach pains
Looking bloated.

Now the reason I know some of these symptoms, is because Fiona got to some chocolate yesterday! After discovering the empty wrapper, she was off to Chalkland Vets to be made sick. They were great with her & I can’t thank them enough. She’s off for a blood test tomorrow just to be safe 🤞🏻

So as the obvious goes, please

1. Keep your chocolate hidden away out of site.

2. Never feed your dog chocolate intended for humans

3. If your chocolate is missing, and you suspect your dog is the culprit, contact your vet IMMEDIATELY

4. Check the door is properly closed where the chocolate is, so your dog cannot get to the chocolate (Fiona!! 😳)

There is no antidote for theobromine poisoning, and the treatment will vary depending on the symptoms. As a result, the sooner the treatment is implemented, the greater the chance for recovery.

You always think it’s not going to happen to you, until it does!

Ps- Please don’t give your dog Christmas pudding, as raisins are also highly toxic to dogs due to the tartaric acid, which can cause kidney failure.

This cockerpoo came in today for his first big boy haircut & what a delight he was! He has been having puppy intro’s with me since he was 15 weeks old & it really does show #cockerpoo
