We can’t talk about our Learn To Swim pack without mentioning the main man Casper. From a scared boy who clung to Courtney’s shoulder to a fantastic swimmer who loves to chase his ball around the pool 🥳. We love seeing Casper and his lovely owner every few weeks for some fun and fitness in the pool! Keep smashing it Casper 🐶 #cockerpoosofinstagram #cockerpoo #hydrotherapyfordogs #swk9 #chippenham
🌊 Tsunami Marnie 🌊 our 8 year old Dobermann Marnie loves to swim! It’s lots of fun for her and importantly it helps to keep her fit and active as she grows older. Regular swimming ensures Marnie is able to keep her muscle mass and condition ready for her favourite time of the year - Crufts 🥳 Plus we love watching her splashing around in the pool with her chuck it ball ❤️ #dobermannofinstagram #hydrotherapyfordogs #swk9
Meet Teddy … Teds is a gorgeous golden retriever whose tail never ever stops wagging. He swims with us here at the centre on a regular basis meaning he’s a very strong and fit boy who looks stunning running around the show ring 🥳 #goldenretriever #hydrotherapyfordogs #swk9

Lenny came to see us on Wednesday for a fun and fitness swim! It was his first time in the pool and he was off like a rocket 🚀 Lenny is a very energetic Malinois who finds it hard to focus on his amazing training when he’s got a lot of excessive energy. Lenny was able to burn off some steam on the pool in a safe and controlled way so he’s able to concentrate and focus on training with his mum. Go Lenny! We can’t wait to see you again 💪🏻🐶 #malinois #dogsofinstagram #hydrotherapyfordogs #swk9
Lovely boy Oscar has been coming to the centre for a few weeks now after a period of suspected IVDD left him with a weak hind limb. Oscar has the BEST time having a post shower roll around on the reception rug 😂❤️ #beagle #swk9 #hydrotherapyfordogs #rehabilitation
A day in the life of resident hydro dog Marnie and what a hard life she leads! 😂 although Marnie is a very healthy 8 year old dog she still loves to play in the pool to maintain her strength and mobility. #hydrotherapyfordogs #dobermann #swk9
Proud moment alert 🚨Bonnie has been coming to the centre for a few months now to build up some back end strength and prevent any potential injuries that GSD’s can be prone to. Last night for the first time EVER Bonnie jumped from the ramp on her own to go retrieve the beloved elephant. We absolutely love to see progression and a dog beginning to enjoy their time in the pool! So proud of you Bonnie! 🥇❤️ #gsd #swimming #skw9 #hydrotherapy #hydrotherapyfordogs
The great return of Nigel the miniature poodle. Poor Nigel has been through the wars and 3 surgeries rolled into 1 he’s back in the pool to start his recovery journey. He may be small but he’s incredibly mighty 💪🏻 we’ll be checking back in with Nigel over his recovery to see how he’s getting on. Let’s go Nigel ❤️ #hydrotherapy #rehab #swk9 #dogsrock
Watch out ⚠️ there’s a baby shark in the pool today! 🦈 Little Eddie comes every few weeks for a maintenance swim. As a dachshund with a longer body and shorter legs Eddie is much more susceptible to spinal injuries. To help prevent any potential future problems Eddie is building up a strong core and lots of good muscle mass. We also love giving her a cuddle at the end of the session ❤️ #hydrotherapy #SWK9 #dogsofinstagram #rehabilitation
Casper came to us with no experience in the water and now he’s off like a rocket 🚀 he’s even got his very own life jacket! Way to go Casper 🥳

ELBOW DYSPLASIA 🐕
Meet Buddy …
Buddy has elbow dysplasia characterised by his turned out feet and lack of extension through his elbows when on the move. (The video shows he’s still a happy boy though who is managing his elbows!)
What is it?
Elbow dysplasia occurs when the three bones of the elbow (ulna, radius and numerous) don’t grow together correctly. Elbow dysplasia can come in 3 forms: FCP - pathology of the ulna, OCD - osteochondritis of the humeral condyle and UAP - pathology of the united anconeal process.
Signs & Symptoms?
- limping occasionally, most likely after periods of exercise or rest.
- the front limbs look to rotate inwards.
- the front paws look to be facing outward.
- the elbow appears stiff and unable to move freely.
- you may be able to hear a cracking sound in the elbow joint.
Who is most affected?
Often medium to large breed dogs are more vulnerable such as Retrievers, GSD’s, Rottweilers, Bassett Hounds and Spaniels.
How can hydro help?
Hydrotherapy allows for your dog to move without fully weight bearing. Whilst swimming they are able to flex and extend their front limbs to help improve the range of movement around their elbow joint. Swimming also aids the dog in improving their muscle mass which will benefit the dog as they will be able to move better when on land as it can help to support their joints.
