Fireworks night is now more fireworks season and whilst they might be fun for us, the loud bangs and flashing lights can be extremely distressing for dogs 😥

If you’ve not been able to prepare ahead, here are some last-minute tips to help them during fireworks themselves:

• Block out flashes and bangs. Close any windows or curtains and turn the lights on. Put on music or the TV to help disguise the noise.

• If your dog wants to hide, let them stay where they feel safe.

• If they seek reassurance, calmly give them attention and comfort. Research shows that ignoring them won’t help.

• If your dog doesn’t seem worried, then it’s best to keep them busy with their favourite toys, treats or activities so they don’t become anxious.

• Try to stay calm and relaxed yourself. Your dog will pick up on how you’re feeling, so do your best to relax.

• If your dog makes a mess by accident, avoid telling them off as this might make them feel more scared.

Autumn is a beautiful time for dog walks through fallen leaves but please beware that conkers can be poisonous to dogs and can also cause intestinal blockages, requiring surgery. Conkers contain a chemical called aesculin, along with the leaves and bark of the horse chestnut tree. Signs of conker poisoning can include vomiting, diarrhoea, restlessness with abdominal pain, lethargy and tremors. Death is uncommon, but in rare cases conker poisoning can be fatal. Contact your vet straight away if your dog eats a conker. Acorns can be poisonous too and contain tannins. So enjoy getting out and about but be vigilant! 🍁🍂

Another fun week for this pawsome lot. Most of the Millymoo Crew are solo walks (unless from same household) . BUT that certainly doesn’t mean they don’t have fun . You can see the smile on their faces & that special bond that we all have💚

A big welcome to little cutie Rufus💙. A Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Rufus is in fact the second ‘Toller’ i have had the pleasure of taking out this week. What a great breed - and how lucky am i 💚.

Our sweet natured curly girly, Milly is 5 today!
How time flies. We rehomed a boisterous, excitable, beautiful fluffy red puppy. To the now calm, loving, adult dog that we simply treasure & adore 💕.

Clover, the sweet Spaniel will be departing from the Millymoo Crew to move away. I will miss her & her big fluffy paws . A little cutie who has been a joy to get to know & take out 💚.

When working with behaviour cases, I always look at the whole. Diet, lifestyle, exercise, stimulus and so on.

As this graphic shows, the brain needs supporting to help promote a happy brain. It's for humans but it is the same for dogs.

Finally! The new Pet Abduction Act comes into force today meaning anyone found guilty of stealing a dog in England or Northern Ireland will face up to five years in prison, a fine, or both 🙌

As members of the family, we know that having your beloved pet stolen is an extremely stressful, heart-breaking experience. But until now having your pet stolen has been treated no differently to mobile phone or laptop theft.

Under the new law, dogs and cats are no longer seen as objects but as sentient beings who can experience emotional trauma when they are stolen from their owners 💛
