3 month old Bella had her first groom today and did amazing!
By having something fun for her to focus on whilst the dryer was on, the loud noise became the least interesting thing in the room. She also had freedom to move away at any point if it became too much. What a brave girl 🥰😁
Some might call a herd of cows a "distracting training environment" but not Willow 🐂😅
We taught her the "leave it" cue indoors before quickly levelling it up outside. This simple technique reinforces that disengaging with something (good or bad) in the environment reaps rewards, and is a great starting place for reactivity training. Well done everyone!
I have found a couple of ticks in the last few days - the joys of summer! 😫☀️
Even if your dog gets flea treatments, ticks can still stay attached for 24 hours before dying and dropping off. If you find one don't panic! Grab some tweezers, gently grasp its body, twist a few times and pull it free.

Max is a 3 year old Border Collie looking for his forever home. He is currently in the care of Newcastle Dog & Cat Shelter.🐾

Tulip has stolen my heart! ❤ She is deaf so we have had to adapt our training approach to include hand signals rather than verbal cues - but she is picking it up so well! She can already do a sit, respond to recall, as well as learning to walk by my side 🐾

Cash is an Assistance Dog in Training. Today he went to a garden centre for the first time and was such a good boy! 🥰
Although a little unsure of the sliding doors and mechanical reindeer, he took everything else in his stride!
He was able to disengage from other people and dogs at a distance, walk to a heel and correct himself if he felt tension on the lead whilst regularly checking in with his owner.
We also did some settle work on a blanket in various locations.
He'll be attending garden centres more regularly as part of his ongoing training to desensitise him to this type of environment, before we move onto training him to alert and assist with a disability.
He's come such a long way in just 3 sessions - well done Cash! 🐾👏

It breaks my heart everytime I see yet another article about a dog attacking a child 💔
Very few dogs are truly aggressive - when they bite they are often scared, frustrated or in pain.
Education around dog safety is so important - it is life saving. When my daughter was old enough to understand I started narrating Clipper's body language to her, and now my 4 year old can read dogs better than most.
Never feel rude to say NO when someone asks to pet your dog if they are likely to hate it. We have to advocate for them, whilst keeping the public safe 🐾
'Hare, Turtle, Hare' is just one of the many fun and easy games I'll be teaching at my next Puppy Class starting Monday 4th September at 6pm in Morpeth. Older dogs are welcome too! 🐾

I am 100% for crate training dogs. This provides them with a safe space to relax, feel safe and sleep - just like a bedroom. Excuse my attire, although The Office fans will appreciate my excellent taste in t-shirts 😘🐾
💥 Luna has levelled up her loose lead walking onto the streets! There were kids playing out and people walking by but she stayed focussed once we got into a routine, which is a very hard thing for her to do. I am so impressed! It's all down to her parents putting in the ground work between sessions, well done guys! 🐾👏
🐾 Russell's parents have been working hard on getting him to disengage from things that excite him on walks. In the past he'd pull on the lead, whine / bark and become frustrated that he couldn't get to them, and occassionally he'd redirect that frustration back onto his dad. Today I was the 'exciting thing' in the distance, as seeing me usually predicts treats and attention. As you can see in the video Russell realised it was me when i got closer, but responded to his dad's cues to disengage and follow him. Dogs wont always get to meet the dogs, people and small fluffies they find so interesting, but that doesn't mean we want them to feel stressed and frustrated either. I am so proud of his progress!
