Can't believe is almost a wrap! We've loved every moment of sharing and learning with everyone. 🐰

But hold up, we're not done yet! The final topic is all about companionship—from bonding tips to the perfect diet.

Rabbits are social animals. This means they must live in pairs or groups to keep them happy. Littermates usually make the best companions – but they should always be neutered! Rabbit siblings can mate with each other, and with a litter size ranging from 1 – 14 kittens (baby rabbits) you could quickly have a lot more rabbits than you thought.

It’s a good idea to socialise with your rabbits from an early age so they can get used to you. Always interact with them at their level on the floor, and give them plenty of time and space. It might take a while for them to feel comfortable, but once they do, you’ll have a great relationship.

More information is available on the RWAF website: https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/pairing-up-rabbits-bonding/

Happy Day Four of Rabbit Awareness Week 2024! 🐰

Today, we're diving into how you can create a thriving environment for your fluffy friends with the right nutrition. Let’s hop right into making mealtime both delicious and exciting for your bunnies! 🏡

Rabbits love to snuffle around for titbits so rather than put their food in a bowl, put it around the enclosure, in their tunnels or under some hay, this will encourage their natural urge to go foraging.

Don't forget to like, comment, and share their posts with your fellow bunny lovers! 🐰

We hope everyone's enjoying Rabbit Awareness Week 2024 just as much as we are! 🐰

Today, we're diving deep into bunny behaviour.

Learn how to nurture positive habits and recognise the signs when something might be off.

In the wild, rabbits would spend their time digging, running, jumping, rearing up, hiding, eating, socialising with other rabbits (and being alone sometimes too).
To allow your pet rabbits to carry out their natural behaviours they need to be given plenty to do. We call this enrichment.

Rabbits also need to be social. Neutering rabbits makes them happier and healthier and enables them to live as bonded pairs or groups, meeting their social needs without increasing the rabbit population.

Your furry friend counts on you to understand their needs, so let's hop to it!

Like, share, and comment to keep the conversation going! 🐇✨

Welcome to Day Two of Rabbit Awareness Week 2024 - Healthy Diet, Happy Bunnies!

Today we're hopping right into how what your bun eats affects their health.

A good diet is the basis of everything. It keeps rabbits healthy and can also help to prevent boredom. As a general rule, rabbits need a diet based on 85% grass or feeding hay, 10% greens and 5% good quality nuggets. Providing the food that mimics what rabbits would eat in the wild is vital, can be inexpensive and even fun. You can even pick rabbit food in your garden!

See the RWAF website for more information: https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rabbit-care/

Stay tuned, join the conversation, and let's keep spreading the word about rabbit welfare together! 🐰

30/05/2024

Our final vet nurse post to celebrate Vet Nursing Awareness Month is the one who started it all, our Clinical Director Sonia Green:

- How long have you been at Chorley vets and what is your previous background?
I began my career in 1996 and qualified in 2001 working with both small and large animals. I was a vet nursing lecturer before I opened up my own practice in 2016 becoming a clinical director of a strongly independent, family run nurse led vets.

- What is the best part of being an RVN?
The best part of being an RVN is being the patient's voice and getting to see the sick pets returned to full health.

- What are your special interests within veterinary nursing?
Client communication, teamwork and exotic pets.

- Do you have a favourite pet?
My favourite pet is a sugar glider, I was first introduced to these whilst on work experience at Blackpool zoo.

- Why do you think it is so important to recognise and celebrate the VN profession?
Recognition and regulation of the profession is so important as nurses are highly trained and dedicate their lives to the animals under their care, this should be celebrated.

Todays nurse of the day is the lovely Estelle:

- How long have you been at Chorley vets and what is your previous background
I have been at Chorley vets for 7 years and did all my training here. I started as a volunteer then did my veterinary care assistant course initially. I then did my nursing diploma and absolutely adore my job.

- What is the best part of being an RVN?
The best part of the Job is nursing pets back to health and knowing you have had a hand in that process. I find even on the hard days a few snuggles from the pets or even your own can turn your day around.

- What is the worst part of being an RVN?
The worst part of the job for me is the animal cruelty. Although we see very little there are some cases which never leave you. But on the whole the people and pets we have here, we love.

- What is your favourite role in practice and why?
My favourite roles here are ward and consults. Ward for nursing the sick pets and recovering them from their procedures and consults because I am a people person.

- Why do you think it is so important to recognise and celebrate the VN profession?
I often wonder where the animals would be without our profession. If nobody cared or tried to help them what a sad place it would be.
I couldn’t imagine doing any other job or being anywhere other than Chorley vets. We are here to make a difference and we do.

22/05/2024

Todays veterinary nurse of the day is our head nurse Beth.

- How long have you been at Chorley vets and what is your previous background?
My journey at Chorley Vets started in 2016, where I completed work experience, this then progressed into my journey as a Veterinary Nurse and I qualified in April 2021.

- What is the best part of being an RVN?
The best part of being an RVN is nursing patients back to full health and seeing their owners' reactions.

- What are your special interests within veterinary nursing?
I love emergency care, dealing with all emergencies that come through the door.

- What is your favourite role in the practice and why?
I love patient care, so both ward and monitoring anaesthesia.

- Do you have a favourite pet?
I love all animals, as they all have different personalities, but probably dog or cats.

- How did you decide that you wanted to become a vet nurse?
I’ve always wanted a career in the animal industry.

- Why do you think it is so important to recognise and celebrate the VN profession?
We are a hard working, dedicated profession that sometimes doesn’t get the recognition we deserve.
