Something else we do and have done forever, we don't allow and always get your pooches to stop drinking puddles! Horror stories of anti freeze also which causes serious harm as well as other poisons. We allow streams and moving water but never still. Just something to be careful of 🐶

A mid week pick up 😍🐶🍯

💅🐶 Dog nails! It’s so important to keep your dogs nail short so it doesn’t impact their natural paw position and potentially cause long term injury. But if your dog is anything like Lady and no matter how many times you’ve tried to counter condition them to tolerate having their nails done, they still find it extremely stressful. It’s better to teach them to scratch their nails on a scratch board! I made this one myself by using a chopping board, sandpaper and glue! This is her very first session with the scratch board once I put it altogether. Using a clicker to mark the behaviour I wanted, which was her paw going onto the board. I didn’t have a high criteria because this was her first session, I simply wanted her to pop her paw on the scratch board. Once she did I would click and reward her by throwing a treat away so I could reset her positioning and she could come back and offer that behaviour. After a few repetitions she started to stick her nails out which is exactly what I wanted and then only started to click and reward her when she scratched her nails down. Then later out of the video I started to wait and see if she would use both paws, but that was a little too hard for her and she got a bit frustrated so I just went back to rewarding her for one paw. 🐶Here’s videos of Poppy demonstrating good self control going through doors. 🦊Poppy gets so excited for her walks that we practise this trick a lot. This isn’t on a verbal cue as when I reach for the door I want her to automatically go into the sit and show me she can contain herself, which of course she can! 😍 🚪It’s also safe for her as if this was a door to the outside world she wouldn’t go dashing out, plus it brings her focus back to me and keeps her mind thinking 🤔 Its also lovely manners as well ☺️ This is a really simple trick we recommend teaching all pooches! Last but not least, my crazy little gremlin Gizmo. Her #trainingtimethursday is just improving her tricks outdoors and working on that stay (although I want to move it just to a sit like with Lady- guys if you have more than 1 dog. PLEASE stick to same cues and don’t confuse them all like I have 🙈) Some great bloopers in this 🤣 Me and Gizmo have entered our first Agility comp and I’m suuuuuper excited. It’s time for.... #trainingtimethursdays !! 🐶Haven’t done a proper session for a while now (naughty Ella!) although I have been doing little sessions and agility/hoopers on Saturdays. I keep forgetting to record! So the next 3 posts are the girls doing their thang outdoors. It good to practise all your cues in all different places to strengthen that behaviour and cue. (Omg that means I can go pub with the girls and record myself 😇🍹🐶) These are unedited so lots of mistakes but hey, that’s training for you! 😁 P.S. When I’m walking away I’m asking Tofu to change sides! (Her cues are ‘left’ for left side and ‘this side’ for the right of me, I couldn’t tell my lefts from rights when I first started to train this 🤣) -Ella x
