Kerax Limited is a Chorley based Company that operates internationally. We are specialists in complex formulated waxes and are the largest wax blender in the UK; producing products for a wide range of industries including Candles, Flexible and Rigid food Packaging, Equestrian Surface treatments, Pharmaceutical Excipient bases and many more. Through constant innovation, we have transformed our portfolio from being heavily reliant on traditional Crude-Oil based mineral hydrocarbons into natural and sustainable vegetable derived alternatives.
About the job:
A combination of market knowledge and a desire to find innovative alternatives to what Kerax can offer is essential within the Development Team. Our diverse and international Customer base requires an uncompromising commitment to Product Development and Technical Service for which, thus far, we are justifiably proud of our achievements in this area.
Scope:
Main purpose is to apply expert chemistry, scientific, technical skills and knowledge into planned and ad-hoc research and development projects aimed at introducing new products and/or processes for use within the industries we serve
Deliverables:
• Formulation design, scale up and support based upon ongoing feedback from our Customers
• Sourcing and evaluation of innovative raw materials required for live projects as well as considering whether their inclusion in existing product steams will deliver a Performance, Technical or Cost saving advantage
• Track and complete projects in a timely manner
• Assists in maintaining a safe and environmentally friendly workplace by following all Kerax safety and environmental policy and procedures.
• Follows all applicable quality standards such as, ISO 9001-2015 procedures and work instructions to ensure compliance with the documented Quality System.
• Other duties and / or projects as may be assigned through Chief Technical Officer
Complexity:
The nature of our business requires a diverse knowledge of wax, wax-in-water emulsion and dispersion technologies. This creates excellent opportunities to work with our customers to keep current with present and future technologies in a wide range of industries and applications
It essential to possess a wide understanding of current chemical industry practices and procedures. The nature of this position is very broad in that it requires statistical data analysis, formulation, and laboratory skills with specific “hands on” experience relating to material characterization, wax in water emulsions using analytical methods available in house or where this is not possible, identifying and working with external test houses or academic institutions to obtain the required outcomes relevant to the project in hand.
The ability to interact and communicate at all levels, whether that be internal or with customers, is essential in order to ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner.
Knowledge, experience and skills:
• Degree in Analytical Chemistry or Polymer Science is desirable but not essential if the possession of transferable skills, working experience and knowledge are demonstrable.
• Experience in working with waxes or similar materials in areas such as surface coatings, candle making or within the Health & Personal Care industries.
• Experience in market driven product development
• Proven experience of understanding customer needs and a strong technical ability to translate ideas into products
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a related formulation of products within the wax, plastics or coatings industry
• Experience in water-based coating Industry is a desirable
