in preparation for the twelfth night at Kensmyth

I hate taking everything down, knowing we will not see it again for another year. So I look at each piece of each Christmas and keep it back for the next one. Christmas cards are cut into labels and put away to use for the gift tags for next year, memories from the year before. […]

September 2024 at Clay Meadow Alpaca in the Cotswolds

The promise of chilly frosts and cooler nights as September lands in 2024.. so glad we have our hay in! Feeding alpaca all year round at Kensmyth avoids the transition from grass to hay issues when needed because they are already used to it! Grazing sporadically across the plains from their origi...

True colours at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow on the Cotswolds

I always love seeing the true colours come through after the alpaca have been shorn – that lovely conker colour known as mid brown in the alpaca world reminds me of the conkers to surely come this Autumn.. just to be clear he is actually a Rose Grey because of the new colours and […]

Somebody had a birthday at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow

Happy birthday to the farm dog who can still run fast and round up livestock better than a sheepdog!   Do not be fooled that she likes cooling down with part of an ice lolly – at 40kg and a dog that “holds” strangers at bay a Curly Coated Retriever is not to be messed […]

Watching out for weeds at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow this Summer 2024

I cannot believe how many fields are full of ragwort out and about this year. Luckily we eradicated any sign at Kensmyth way back in 2012 but if you see it, remove it but it has to be including the roots and before seeding.. and as for Himalayan Balsom along the riverbanks, so pretty and […]

Cria drop 2023 growing well – Kensmyth Alpaca at Clay Meadow in the Cotswolds

What can I say about the cria drop this year? Difficult to choose names for such fantastic colours – with the exception of the odd throwback which always happens in Alpaca (and he is still beautiful) our stud boys just keep on producing fantastic fleeces, conformation, temperaments and .. colours!

A rare day off at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow

It is not often we have a day off, let alone together so it was a joy to have a sunny day off and take a few things off my “Bucket List”.. this time to Visit Wales again, to eat Lobster again and to visit the seaside in September and finally, to visit a Castle.. […]

Birthing imminent at Kensmyth, Clay Meadow

Well with Alpaca we always know to look for signs of something different.. like an Alpaca taking itself off to be on its own..   or humming intermittently to its unborn cria inside. clever stuff – so that when in the herd the baby will know whose call is MUMs! so fascinating when they all […]

Did you miss me?

we have been frenetically busy here in readiness for the wet weather and cold coming – yes, the true English January is well under way… in fact some of the sheep watching straw being loaded in readiness for lambing later in the year wondered if we had forgotten their tea…

Getting Hay in at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow in the Cotswolds

Weather has been challenging for all crops this year but the Hay is no exception. I would not like to place bets on a good second crop of hay this year based on the wet weather earlier preventing the first crop being baled. Taking advantage of a dry break, farmers baled madly. So pleased we […]

Restaurants South Cerney from Kensmyth Alpaca in the Cotswolds

With South Cerney being the nearest village to the Alpaca farm, we often recommend restaurants that we have liked. Recently we visited the Elliott Arms which used to be more like a Beefeater type restaurant. Absolutely not now, very chic.. really enjoyed our meal there. Kidneys, smoked mackerel, big...

Ocado vegetables do they come up to scratch or is it all supermarkets

Bye Bye Baby and good luck at Kensmyth Alpaca, Clay Meadow
