I am proud to announce that on Saturday I completed a 3 and a half hour practical exam for my Level 2 Qualification in Animal Care and Welfare. I was awarded with a Distinction! 🎉

Here are some of the comments from my examiner:

"Jess’s attention to detail was excellent, she
worked methodically and carefully on both the
tasks and worked to the given timelines. She was
aware of all the risks, provided excellent risk
assessment at the beginning of each task and
assessed risks that were ongoing."

"Jess worked to a very high standard during the practical tasks, she was very risk aware, adhered to the controls and policies and adapted her approach when needed. She was quoting the legislation constantly and had an excellent understanding of that, plus legislation that covered the licensing requirements. Her answers in the professional discussion were confident and she showed clear understanding of her role. Excellent work Jess – very well done."

I have some exciting news to share with my lovely customers...

I am due to complete my apprenticeship and receive my qualification in Animal Care & Welfare at the end of November! So I will be available for walks, visits and overnight stays everyday!

I want to thank you all for continuing to support me and using my services throughout the last year and I cannot wait to spend more time with your lovely pups.

The experience and knowledge I have learned since last November has been invaluable, I look forward to putting it into good use with your fur babies!

During the week, I took Willow for a lovely walk down the beach, as we do most days. Willow was off the lead because she has wonderful recall and she will not approach another dog without my say so. In the distance I saw two dogs off the lead with their owner, I kept Willow behind me as we walk past and these two dogs ran up to Willow and they started trying to play, it was quite rough. The owner was calling them, and they didn't listen so I stood in front of Willow and told them "NO" that's when they listened and we continued walking. The owner then shouted to me and said "maybe your dog shouldn't be off the lead if it isn't confident with other dogs". I said "she is confident with other dogs, but doesn't approach any dogs that she doesn't know and that's the way it should be if your dog is going to be off the lead". I am completely shocked and stunned that this woman tried to blame Willow and I for her dogs lack of recall and training. I have a little following on here and I would just like to say please do not let your dog off the lead if they have no recall and feel the need to "play" with every dog they see. Luckily, Willow is not reactive and she can trust that I will protect her, but had it been an aggressive or reactive dog that these dogs ran up to it could have been a completely different story. If you need to practice recall there are multiple private fields to hire in the local area.

I would also like to state that these dogs were a "bully breed" which as everyone knows is now a banned breed. These dogs were not muzzled, not on a lead and as stated had no training. I have no problem with the breed of dog, they are lovely with the right owner however, due to the law in place it is even more dangerous for them to be off lead because if caught the dogs can be seized by police. It is this exact irresponsible ownership of the breed that got them banned in the first place and I am devastated that I have witnessed it.

Please keep your dog on the lead unless it has recall. I use 'Strawberry Fields', to practice recall and training which is a private field and banned breeds can run free without a muzzle.
