Sweet new arrival just in 🧡

This lovely lad came in this morning who was being used as a therapy pig in a hospital. Sadly his friend recently passed away and the hospital staff felt that it was best for him to be surrendered where he could find companionship again.

More updates to follow on this handsome chap!

Sadly we have had no luck in finding the poor pigeon a runner straight to Maldon but we have been aware that someone from Frinton will be transporting another injured pigeon up to Maldon sometime today. If there is anyone who can at least help get the pigeon from Clacton to Frinton then you really will be saving this pigeons life 🙏🏼

Everyone meet Trufflehunter 💕

This sweet girl came into the rescue just over two weeks ago through no fault of her own. It wasn’t until she arrived in rescued that we realised she was actually infact a ‘she’ and not a ‘he’ after originally being sexed wrongly by PAH 🙃

Trufflehunter is an older, sweet Syrian who is now ready to search for her perfect retirement home. If you are interested please keep an eye out for her adoption post soon to come.

🚨 £1 Wednesday - WE NEED YOUR HELP 🚨

Sadly we really are struggling at the moment with funding and as a non-profit, small animal rescue we rely heavily on donations to help us to continue helping smaller animals in need. All donations made always go into our vet fund as the vets is pretty much our second home. We are always very thorough with invoices to prove exactly where your funds are going, and the animals you are helping in the process of donating.

Could you spare £1 in helping out our rescue? £1 may not seem like much but it really does make a HUGE difference in supporting us. Imagine if every one of our followers donated just £1! ✨

We have had lots of vet visits recently and you can find these all on our page with the proof of invoices below in the comments of each post. Bailey & Jupiter also had their vaccinations today, so any support whether it’s a donation, share or even a comment below to help boost this post is always VERY much appreciated by us all. Without the amazing support we have had over the years we would never have been able to help the small animals that we have!

We have been doing £1 Wednesday for over a year now where we got the idea from another rescue (sadly we can’t remember which rescue this was) and they were doing £2 Tuesday at the time. Obviously we didn’t want to rob them of their donation day, so we decided to come up with our own idea of £1 Wednesday 😌 it really is a great way of raising funds as we know not everyone can afford big donations and small donations really do go such a long way in supporting us. A huge shout out to those who have continued to support us through our £1 Wednesday’s to help keep the rescue going.

Please see how you can support us through £1 Wednesday below 🐾⬇️

✨ PayPal donation link: paypal.com/paypalme/higglespiggles - don’t forget to donate through the ‘friends and family’ option so we receive the full donation. If you would like to donate but don’t have PayPal, don’t forget you can message us for our bank details.

✨ JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/higglespigglesrescue? - we now also have a JustGiving page to help keep the rescue going if you’d rather donate here.

We understand that times are extremely hard for everyone, so even if you’re unable to donate a share or a comment below will go such a long way in supporting us 🥰

A huge thank you for everyone’s amazing ongoing support!

We had quite a day yesterday! With Aslan in for his neuter procedure, we also noticed that Huey wasn’t quite right after not being very enthusiastic with his food and seeming in discomfort. He was given pain relief and was tempted with his favourite foods which he just wasn’t interested in, so we booked him an emergency appointment for a check over just to be safe.

Thankfully by the time he had his appointment he was a lot more perkier and the vet couldn’t find anything unusual. He even showed us up in the vet room as he seemed completely fine in himself 🙈 a gut stimulant was given and he appears back to his normal self again today 🤎

Just an update on Aslan to say that he is recovering well after his neuter procedure yesterday ❤️‍🩹

He will wait around 6-8 weeks before attempting to bond with other rabbits.

Important information on rabbit vaccinations featuring our adopted boy Monty 😍

PLEASE READ 🐰

Annual vaccination is very important to keep our rabbits protected against both strains of deadly Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease (RHD1&2) and Myxomatosis. Unlike dog and cat vaccines, protection only lasts for 1 year and so it's very important to not be overdue. 💜🐰🐾

There is a single "triple" vaccine (Nobivac Myxo-RHD Plus) that covers all 3 of these viruses. If this is the only vaccine your rabbit has ever had, they just need this. However, if your rabbit has had other vaccinations previously (Nobivac Myxo-RHD and either Eravac or Filavac), they need to be up to date on their RHD2 vaccine when transferred onto the "triple" vaccine. We have recently seen several older (>4 years old) rabbits who have been having the triple vaccine but were not up to date on RHD2 when transferred over. This means that they were not protected against the virus. Please check if your rabbit was up to date on RHD2 when moved onto the newer vaccine, and if unsure then please get in touch at [email protected] and we will be able to advise. 💜🐇

Happy official adoption day to our lovely boy, Herbie 🥳

Herbie is an older lad who has been in the rescue for some time now after coming to us as an unwanted piggie with 3 other single lads and his poorly mum.

He went off to his forever home just over three weeks ago now in hope to bond with his new friend, and it’s safe to say that all has gone to plan just as we’d hoped. We are absolutely over the moon for him and we couldn’t be happier that he has finally found a place to call home with his new bud, Frost, who was also in desperate need of companionship after losing his friend.

Go live your best life now bud! We are going to miss you 🖤

A huge thank you to Christine (Herbie’s previous foster carer) for helping to bring him and the other lads into the rescue. You had them for such a long time and we really appreciate all that you done for them.

📷: Here are some snaps of Herbie in his new home.

We have lots of vet costs coming up in the next week ahead 🩺🐰

We have a rabbit neuter and two rabbit vaccinations this week. We have also discovered that Bean (our most recent rescue rat) has a lump on his chin/neck area which will also need checking out. Removal will also potentially be likely depending on what it is.

If anyone can support us at this time it would be so appreciated. Our funds are starting to get very low which means we won’t be able to help anymore animals until we are back on track and have focused on those already in our care. Please remember that even if you’re unable donate, a share will go such a long way in supporting us ❤️

Naomi & Fifi are both now ready to ready to start searching for a forever home together 🐹🏡

Both girls came into the rescue three weeks ago through no fault of their own. They will be ready for rehoming from 07/09/24.

Naomi & Fifi are looking for a serious, forever, loving home together. We would be happy for them to join a herd or a lonely female/neutered boar who may be in need of some friends. They are both lovely girls who deserve a proper place to call home and feel secure. They are a little shy at first like most piggies, but once you get to know them and earn their trust, they really are sweethearts. Naomi is the more shy piggie out of the two and we always say that she looks like she has spaghetti chops, due to her markings around her little mouth. Fifi is definitely the more confident piggie out of the two and will always be more out and about.

Both girls will need a suitable set up and we will not allow for them to be rehomed in any type of unsuitable/small enclosure. Please do message us for further information in regard to suitable set ups

If you’re interested in applying for Naomi & Fifi you will need to fill out an application form, a home check will also be required and a donation fee if you’re chosen as the girls suitable adopter.

Please share to help us find Naomi & Fifi their forever home 🙏🏼

Today we said a very sad goodbye to Gus 💔

Although small this lovely boy had such a big personality with so much character. He originally came into the rescue 3 years ago after being contacted by a dog rescue who needed help with some gerbils who had been handed in. He came to us along with 4 other gerbils (Spike & Mike🌈, Ash🌈 and Kodak) who were being held in ice cream tubs. The enclosure he was handed over in had ‘nasty male’ written on it as we were told that he had bitten someone. We never saw that side of him and he was always a sweet, inquisitive boy. He wasn’t with us for too long before he went off with his foster carer Shannon, who helped his confidence grow and through trust created a lovely bond with one another.

Our thoughts have been with Shan (Gus’s foster carer) who helped Gus pass over the other side this morning 🌈 you really did give him the best life after his unknown previous life and the rocky start from when he first arrived in rescue. We will forever be grateful for everything you did for him.

A huge thank you to Kinfauns Veterinary Centre Ltd this morning for making a sad time that little bit easier. We really appreciate it ❤️

Rest easy lovely boy 🐾🐁 coconut boy forever 🥥✨

We can’t believe it’s been whole year since we found our naughty Nova unexpectedly in her forever sleep. We miss her everyday 🤍

It is with complete sadness and utter shock to be sharing the news of Nova’s passing 💔

We found our beautiful girl in her forever sleep yesterday and we are left in complete shock, and feeling clueless as to why she died so suddenly. We had only taken a picture of both Nova and Mama at around 2pm, the same day she died and showed no obvious signs of illness. She was even still being her cheeky little self. We weren’t too sure on her exact age as she was found wandering in a woodland, but she never showed signs of old age. She was full of life and always shon so bright ✨ her name really did fit to her beautiful personality. She was always such a cheeky and mischievous girl. It certainly won’t be the same without her. She really has left a huge hole in our hearts, especially her rattie friends.

We love you forever Nova. Keep on shining wherever you are. You will always be the brightest star. Rest in eternal peace lovely girl 🐁✨💫

Help us to help keep the rescue going 🐹🐾

Sadly we are now at our maximum capacity of rescue intakes and won’t be able to take on any further smaller animals at this point. We really need help with funding if we are going to able to continue helping smaller animals in need, but for now we will be focusing on those already in our care.

As a small animal rescue we really do rely heavily from members of the public for donations and support. All donations made will go directly into our vet fund to help support our rescue residents to get everything that they need. Proof of invoices are always shown so that we are able to show you exactly where your money is going.

If you are unable to donate at this time, please remember that a share and a comment on the post below will really help to push out our plea for help 🙏🏼

We would just like to thank everyone for the amazing ongoing support. If it wasn’t for our supporters, foster carers and vets, we wouldn’t have been able to help as many smaller animals that we have ❤️

A little update after Abe & Huey’s neuter procedure from today ⬇️✨

Both boys are now home recovering and eating well! It was noticed however during surgery whilst checking Huey’s teeth that he does have some dental disease. Some of his teeth were broken but thankfully his cheek teeth are okay. Our vet also trimmed one of his incisors as one of them were quite long. Huey also has some tiny lumps which he came in with and our vet did wonder if they may have been skin abscesses, but after getting a closer look during surgery she feels this isn’t the case. X-rays were taken and our vet has spoken to us about potentially trying to remove them and to biopsy to investigate further.

Thankfully despite all of this, both boys are on their way to an even happier life where they will both get more of a chance at finding companionship 🤎

A HUGE shout out to our amazing vet Zoe & amazing foster carer Coral. You both always go above and beyond for our rescue residents and if it wasn’t for the both of you we wouldn’t be able to do what we do to help give smaller furries the happier, and better life they deserve.

If anyone would like to donate towards their costs from their vet appointment today, you can donate here: https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/higglespiggles - please don’t forget to donate through ‘friends & family’ so we receive the full donation. You can also message us for our bank details if you’d rather donate this way. Any support would truly be appreciated at this time 🥰

✨ King Bowie (leader of our sanctuary herd) is here to remind you that it’s £1 Wednesday ✨ could you spare £1 in helping out our rescue? Smaller, non-profit rescues like ourselves rely heavily on donations from the public.

PLEASE make sure that any hutches/enclosures are not in direct sunlight 🥵 provide lots of shade, hides (non plastic), fresh water, ice packs etc.

Please see Bristol Rabbit Rescue And Friends’s post below for signs of heatstroke. Heatstroke can be fatal, so please don’t forget about your furries who may be suffering whilst you’re out having fun in the sun.

⚠️ Heatstroke advice ⚠️

With the continuing hot weather, we encourage those who care for rabbits & piggies to be on the lookout for signs of heatstroke. Heatstroke is a very serious, potentially deadly condition, that can develop quickly. Rabbits & piggies are particularly vulnerable to this because of their fur coats and inability to pant or sweat, which means they have limited ways to lose heat.

Signs of heatstroke include:

❗️Red, hot ears
❗️Fast breathing
❗️Breathing through their mouth
❗️Salivating
❗️Low energy
❗️Shaking
❗️Confusion/dizziness
❗️Seizures
❗️Weakness/collapse
❗️Unconsciousness

If you suspect one of your bunnies has heatstroke, follow these steps:

1️⃣ Move them to a cool room or into the shade immediately.
2️⃣ Call your vet and arrange an emergency appointment.
3️⃣ While you’re waiting, try to cool your bunny down by creating a breeze (e.g. with a fan), offering them a drink, placing them on top of a cold wet towel or a ceramic tile, or soaking their ears with cold water. DO NOT submerge your bunny in water - this is dangerous.
4️⃣ Ideally, transport your bunny to the vet in an air conditioned car, or at least make sure you have the windows open.

Prevention is always better than cure, so check out our other posts for our top tips to help you keep your animals cool during this hot spell. Stay safe everyone 😎

This picture right here is a huge part of rescue life. We spend a lot of the time at vets, so any support is really appreciated at this time. We have neuter procedures and rabbit vaccinations coming up which we need to pay out for.

Thank you for everyone’s awesome support ❤️
