Theo had his tear duct flush this afternoon. He is still dealing with a blocked tear duct that we’re trying to manage for him. He has another three tear duct flush appointments in the next coming three weeks.

Rabbit Nutrition, part 4 TREATS 🐰
This is only a short post as treats should only make up a small portion of your rabbit's diet.

🐰 The best treats are hay based, and hay or grass should be the 1st or 2nd ingredient listed. And these ideally are based on a natural flavouring such as herbs, forage or fruit. My preference are the excel nature snacks and selective naturals

🐰 Very small amounts of safe fruit (apple, blueberries etc.) and more sugary vegetables (pumpkin, carrots etc.) can be fed 1-2x per week. I would consider an OK amount to be 1 blueberry, 1/4 of a small strawberry and 1cm cube of apple as an example. .uk do a selection of dried veg & fruit that can be used as treats. See the website for the full list of safe vegetables.

Could you help support us? As a non-profit, small animal rescue we rely heavily on donations to help us to continue helping smaller animals. All donations made always go into our vet fund, as the vet’s is pretty much our second home. We are always very thorough with invoices to prove exactly where your funds are going, and the animals you are helping in the process of donating.

❗️This week you will be supporting Hazel (rabbit) who is in for her spay procedure tomorrow. She was originally rescued along with her brother who had been living in a tiny hutch and advertised on Facebook. Theo (rabbit) is also at the vets tomorrow for his tear duct flush. We have been advised by our Exotic Vet that he will need them flushing once a week for a month❗️

We have been doing £1 Wednesday for over a year now where we got the idea from another rescue (sadly we can’t remember which rescue this was) and they were doing £2 Tuesday at the time. Obviously we didn’t want to rob them of their donation day, so we decided to come up with our own idea of £1 Wednesday 😌 it really is a great way of raising funds as we know not everyone can afford big donations and small donations really do go such a long way in supporting us. A huge shout out to those who have continued to support us through our £1 Wednesday’s to help keep the rescue going, whether it’s through donations, shares or comments on the post!

✨⚖️ Sonny’s weigh in day and update ⚖️✨

Sonny had his first vet appointment this week with our lovely guinea pig savvy vet. He needed his bottom incisors trimmed as they were overgrown, a urine sample was taken for diabetes which was all clear and his heart sounded okay. He is still getting a lot of impaction and our vet did say that he has the saggiest bum that she’s ever seen. Castration has also been suggested when he is in better health to minimise the area. Our vet suspects he’s not moving due to his weight and due to his saggy bum. In regard to his vision, he has cataracts in both eyes which could be why he does bump into things. He was also given meds incase of arthritis due to his excess weight.

For those not aware of Sonny’s story, he came to us at the beginning of January after high concerns for his welfare. Sadly came to us in an awful state. He was extremely overweight and when he was checked over by our foster carer, he had an awful poopy back end with a large solid compaction, which is likely due to the wrong diet and lack of exercise in his previous home.

We are so pleased to announce though that Sonny has managed to lose 🥳 35g 🥳 this week thanks to his wonderful foster carer. He still remains on a special diet and is being encouraged to move around more using food etc to tempt him to move about. He came in weighing 1500g and is now down to 1450g 👏🏼

Blade is still patiently waiting for her forever home. She’s not had a single enquiry yet 🥹

Blade is now ready to find her forever home 🏡

This tiny, gorgeous girly came into the rescue back in October through Bright Horizon Rescue, who originally rescued her after she was surrendered to them. She had previously been living with her sister and needed urgent foster space where our lovely rodent foster carer (Laura) offered to help. She is a roborovski dwarf hamster around the age of 6 months approx.

Blade’s is a confident girl who absolutely LOVES running on her wheel. She has been doing really well in her foster home and will come up to the window and now even eat from her foster carers hand. Her foster carer feels that her confidence will only continue to increase, as she is most certainly not shy and just needs to continue to build trust with humans. We will be searching for an adopter who will respect and work closely with Blade to continue to gain her trust.

Blade is currently in a 100x50x50 set up but we would ideally like to find her a forever home with someone who can provide a bigger set up, as robo hamsters are the speediest and most active of all hamster breeds. We need to point out that she is very vulnerable to falling, so anyone interested would need to be very aware of this and thoughtful about her set up.

To apply for Blade you will need to fill out an application form, a home check will be required and a donation fee if you are chosen as the suitable adopter which helps us to continue helping smaller animals in need. You will also need to have a picture of your set up or talk to us about suitable enclosures. Please message us for further information.

Update on Theo (sanctuary bun) 🖤

Our lovely boy had a health check with our Exotic vet this morning. He had one of his tear ducts flushed and the other one was attempted which was unfortunately quite blocked. The vet said this is likely due to his dental roots which can cause the tear ducts to become blocked.

He has been given anti-inflammatories, a gut stimulant and eye drops. Theo will also need his tear ducts flushed once a week for a month. He’s still not fully back to eating properly or pooping, so we are still giving him lots of syringe feeds.

Our sanctuary bun Theo had an urgent appointment yesterday evening after noticing he wasn’t fully quite himself throughout the day. He recently also fell out with his friendship group of 4 and this is now the second time that this has happened after trying to rebond him back in, which makes us think there could be something more going on and for the reason as to why he’s not wanting to be around any of the gang at the moment 🐰❤️‍🩹

He was checked over really well by our local vet, but we will be taking him to our Exotic Vet in Suffolk this morning as we feel we didn’t fully get to the bottom of things. We have been feeding him critical care feeds every 2-3 hours (as advised by our vet) and we continued this through the night.

Rabbits are extremely delicate beings so it’s really important to get them to the vet if you notice the slightest change in their behaviour or if they don’t seem right.

We will be sure to keep you all posted later on today 🙏🏼

A lovely successful rescue today! 🥹

This beautiful girl was transported to her forever home this afternoon by the lovely Lynda Williams. Here are some lovely photos of her arriving, cuddling with her new caregiver (Gail) and her amazing set up/home.

We cannot wait to see how she settles in. More updates will be to follow 💕

Could you support Jack? 🐹✨

Jack came into the rescue back in October 2023 along with his bud, Chip. Jack & Chip are permanent residents but live with their foster carer who offered them a forever foster home. This decision was made after it was discovered that Jack would need ongoing dental.

Jack was back at the vets today to have his teeth checked. The vet noticed that three of his incisors were broken and he also had his lower left incisor trimmed. He will be back in two weeks where he will need a full dental under general anaesthetic. He will also be needing more syringe feeds which our vet has recommended four times daily, so if anyone would like to support Jack we are in desperate need of some critical care Excel Dual feed which he seems to like the best.
