We have a lot of bookings coming in for the next year so if you need to book it’s worth doing it now, we only require a 20% deposit secure the space and we can make minor adjustments later on as long as we have the space.

All dogs get 2 walks per day plus toilet breaks, our goal is to give the dogs a fun time when they are out of the kennel and a calm relaxed time in the kennel. We offer group or 121 walks depending what each dog prefers.

Your dog will need to come for a 3 hour trial if they haven’t already to check if they are happy here.

We’ll have some more availability for daycare from September, it can be really useful through the winter to know your dog is getting exercise in the day so you don’t have to do the dark evening walk if you don’t want to.

Daycare is also great for getting dogs used to being here, the ones coming for regular daycare are always the happiest when they then come to stay over night.

Collies
They can be such a complex breed. My family have always had collies and I got my first one of my own when I was 8. A little rescue called Dash, she was really chilled and easy, the type that makes you want another.
A few years and quite a lot of collies later and I love the breed more than ever. They can be a great companion wanting work or go for long walks and equally happy to curl up on the sofa for a cuddle. They can also be incredibly difficult and living with them can be very hard.
They come with a wide spectrum of personalities from chilled and bomb proof like Dash to being oversensitive to everything, hyper vigilant and quick to bite. I’ve had dogs from every part of the spectrum. I know what it’s like to not have the dog you expected and not know who to go to for help or if anyone even can help or even if they’ll make things worse.
I live with multiple collies who I compete in agility, work on sheep and take for long walks on the beach or in the forest. They also love to pile up on the sofa for a cuddle.
I love helping people to understand their collies and repair broken relationships with them.

Planning that summer holiday? ☀️ now is a great time to book your dog in for a trial stay with us as it gives us plenty of time to arrange short stays if they need to build confidence.

When staying with us overnight your dog will have 2 walks in our fields either on their own or with others depending on what they prefer, they also go out in our sand arena for free time and toilet breaks so they come out of the kennel 4 or 5 times per day.
When in for daycare they have 2 walks and at least one toilet break in the arena depending on how long they are in for.

We put alot if focus on the kennels being a calm and relaxed environment so they can switch off in between walks.

Please send us a msg or email [email protected] to book.

We have a couple of spaces for boarding or daycare over Easter, there is still time to fit in a trial stay if your dog hasn't stayed with us before, if your dog has had a successful trial you can go ahead and book.

Over the last few years we’ve seen an increase in the number of dogs having a parasite called giardia, it used to be seen mostly in young puppies when they first went to a new home but we’re now seeing it regularly in adult dogs. It’s not covered by a dogs monthly wormer and is often missed and diagnosed as dogs having a sensitive tummy.
Symptoms are sickness, diarhea, stomach discomfort and weight loss. It’s usual not serious but can become serious if left and it’s possible for people to get it.

The good news is you don’t have to go to your vet to test for it, you can collect a poo sample and send it off, it codts as little as £14.
I’ve put a couple of links below to companies that test for it, we test our own dogs around every 6 months and also do a general worm count rather than worming monthly as we don’t like usuing chemicals when there not needed.

Between the kennels and lessons we see large number of dog's. Because of this as well as competing in dog sports we are very good at spotting when a dog isn't moving quite as it should. This could be very obvious lameness or a more subtle stiffness. Dogs are very good at hiding pain and discomfort so it often goes un-noticed for a long time until it becomes very serious. It can have a big impact on the dogs behaviour, from getting in and out of the car, not wanting to be touched, not running around as much to more troublesome behaviours like reactivity and aggression. I'd actually guess that at least 70% of dog's we see for reactivity are in some type of pain or discomfort. It can be very hard to get owners to accept that there dog might be in pain, sometimes they are in denial, sometimes they just have too much going on and don't want another thing to deal with. However it is something that if caught early it is usually easier to treat than if left to progress.

Bill and Sharron brought their dog Mabel for lessons for reactivity and chasing. When she first came she had uneven hair on her back and stiff movement, she also hated her harness being put on (a very common sign of pain). I asked them to write a bit about their experience in the hope that it will encourage other owners to get their dog's checked.

Mabel is our young collie and she has been reactive and a bit anxious at times.
Claire noticed her fur was standing up on her back, meaning that maybe she was tensing muscles unnaturally for some reason.
She recommended Renew Centre Vets in Dursley and they found that she had a stuck hip on one side which they then treated with acupuncture (yes, really!) and chiropractic's over a few months. The treatment was successful and she can move much better now - for example scratching her ear with her hind leg!
We also found that she is a bit more compliant and affectionate. So, happier, as far as we can tell.
We think this goes to show that, just like us, if you’re in pain, then you are not in the best of moods and this affects how you deal with the world.
Mabel is still reactive to certain things but we feel we have a much better platform now on which to train. This gives us more confidence that we can make progress and make her feel calm, secure and happy all the time.

These are a few possible signs of your dog being in pain.

Slowing down on walks or being reluctant to go for a walk
Hesitating when jumping up or down, or using stairs
Stiffness
Sleeping more
Changes in temperament
Licking the joints
Lameness/limping
Difficulty settling down or getting comfortable
Difficulty posturing to go to the toilet or walking while toileting, or unable to eliminate completely
Changes in body shape
Changes in posture eg roaching spine
Behavioural changes such as becoming more reactive to dogs or people
Noise sensitivity (this could be a new sensitivity or an exacerbation of an already-existing sensitivity)
Phobias
Decreased tolerance to handling/husbandry
Asymmetrical sitting or drop position
Unsettled and restless
Changes in coat (patterns/directions of fur)
Asymmetrical nail wear
Panting
Lower head carriage
Loss of appetite

Here’s what our clients have to say

‘In December last year we rescued a beautiful but terrified dog from Bosnia. She was found chained up with her puppies and consequently has had to defend herself against everything and was extremely hyper vigilant.
We contacted Claire who suggested that we tried a 6 week course working with Claire’s stooge dogs.
We met Claire initially for 30 minutes to meet Aggie and get to know her. We were immediately reassured and felt Claire could help us.
For our first session we met in Claire’s field, Claire worked with us on some techniques for avoiding difficult situations which we practiced with supervision. Claire then entered to furthest point in the field with her calmest dog and we practiced walking towards her and moving away before Aggie reacted. Each week we practiced this with several, different and bouncier dogs until we were able to stand close to Claire with Aggie with no reaction, it was amazing!
Claire is so calm and reassuring, and helped us to read and understand our dog.
We are now able to walk Aggie off lead with any dogs without reaction…. It’s amazing!
We would 100% recommend Claire for all your dog training needs!’
Ruth and Aggie

‘After several independent recommendations, I approached Claire for help with socialising my re-homed 3yr old Labrador. Although not aggressive, he was extremely over enthusiastic when meeting other dogs, lunging and barking at them, and essentially unable to carry out acceptable canine communications. Claire suggested bringing a variety of stooge dogs into the training area so we could slowly and calmly meet other dogs, whilst constantly receiving advice on how to do this at each stage of the introductions. Of particular concern were entire males and high energy dogs, so Claire specifically chose appropriate stooge dogs which would promote the required learning situation. This invaluable training has given me the confidence and understanding to deal with real life scenarios, and progress is positive and on going.’ Hillary and Nero

‘I sought help from Claire to help socialise my dog. Using her stooge dogs was very beneficial for my dog. More importantly, Claire boosted my confidence with my dog. We now enjoy our walks far more. Highly recommend.’ Helen and Bantie

Research indicates that pain may account for up to 80% of behavioral issues in dogs - which is huge! Experts in chronic (long-standing) pain suggest that behavioural consultations in the dogs own environment can be more informative than assessment in vet clinics or x-rays/other imaging. We know that dogs are reticent to demonstrate pain and therefore the signs can be subtle.

We use several questions to identify whether a dog might be uncomfortable, and this is an important part of the overall picture.

Here is a checklist tool that we hope will be helpful in identifying pain, to be used by owners, trainers, and any other dog professional. It is not a diagnostic tool, and it does not replace veterinary assessment, but it might help guide when a dog needs more help, and potentially track improvement.

☀️Planning that summer holiday? Or staycation?☀️

If you are planning to go away this year with the hope of your dog staying with us please do get in touch to arrange a trial session.

Trial sessions are 3 hours long and £12 per kennel - usually on a week day. This helps us determine whether your dog is at ease with the kennel environment from the off or if they may need some help getting to that point before boarding with us.

It is our ultimate goal that your dogs stay is a happy and calm experience. We like to see lots of waggy tails in our kennels!

So if you have been routinely vaccinating your dog then consider a titre test - see below for more info on titre testing. Let's start the new year thinking about optimising the health of our furry friends
