Hugo enjoyed cuddles during his stay and even spent some time having snuggles with staff in reception when the scary thunderstorn started. He is a beautiful boy 🥰🤩

Mr Spock had a little ''snacksident'' and accidentally ate his human's cake which isn't meant for doggies with it's raisin ingredients. Poor Mr Spock had a short stay with the vets to support his kidneys being a young baby and to make sure he didn't have any nasty tummy upsets. Mr Spock was joined by some of his best teddys and rated 10/10 for belly rubs. He is the sweetest sausage boy! 😍🥰

Sir Hector came to see us last week for his dental. He started his visit with lots of purrs and cuddles and had a fairly stress free day! Hector was the puurrfect example of a 'cat friendly' visit where the team needed minimal handling to get a blood sample and place his intravenous catheter for his fluids. This made his visit a little less stressful and helped make his stay with us fairly relaxed. Hector has the cutest little nose print we have seen! ❤🐾

''Why do I need to vaccinate my pet?''

It is very important to vaccinate your pet to help protect them from some potentially
life-threatening diseases. Unfortunately we still routinely see pets who's vaccinations are not up to date. As the cost of everything rises, this means this can be low down on an owner's 'to-do' list. Did you know if your pet is on our healthy paws club they get their vaccinations completely free of charge!?

Vaccines are also important to help prevent pets from passing on a disease such as Leptospirosis, which can be passed from our dogs to us! Zoonotic diseases are always scary when they can affect the humans in contact with our pets.

If you’re thinking of going away your pet will likely need to be vaccinated as catteries and kennels will usually ask for proof that your pet’s vaccinations are up-to-date. Some insurance companies may exclude certain conditions if your pets vaccinations are not up to date.

If you are unsure if your pet is up to date, please give us a call. 🐾

Have you heard of the 'ladder of aggression'? Quite often we will be told that a pet has 'bitten without warning'. This is very rare to happen as our pets have very limited communication but it is our job to help understand their warning cues.

Did you know that our very own Nyika (Vet) is our go-to behaviorist who is on hand to assist with behaviour consultations should your pet need a behaviour referral. The team are here to help should you need any help or advice.

There are many reasons why your dog may be aggressive, and it may require veterinary advice. Read about ways to stop aggressive behaviour in dogs here.

Cats can be trickier to read when it comes to bites as they are very quick and have low tolerance for being messed with. It is very important for us as a Cat Friendly Clinic to prevent cat bites as this will keep our staff safe but most importantly will make your cat's visit as stress free as possible.

It is important to allow your cats space of their own, preferably high up or secluded depending on what your cat prefers. We are always happy to offer help and advice on how to keep your pets happy and secure in their visit to us and at home.

Learn more about the reasons behind why cats start biting suddenly to find the best ways to stop your cat biting with our practical guide & tips.

Lets talk muzzle training.

If your dog visits us and is a biter, please don't be afraid to warn us in advance and tell us what would make your dog feel safer. If we can work with your pet without the need for a muzzle, we will do so but please don't be offended if we advise we need to muzzle your pet.
If you know your dog may bite, you can work on positive reinforcement muzzle training from home to make this experience less stressful for them.

We are in the process of becoming a dog friendly clinic as well as being cat friendly and we may try to change your visit routine to make your visit less stressful for your dog. If your dog is anxious or nervous, please let us know in advance of your appointment so we can try new ways to manage their experience with us to aim for a stress-free visit.

Watch our video on how to muzzle train your dog. If your dog needs to wear a muzzle it is important to understand how to make your dog comfortable wearing a muzzle. The best type of dog muzzle is the Baskerville muzzle.

Biting and chewing starts with our pets at a young age.
If this behaviour is not corrected, you can form a bad habit of unwanted behaviour from your pets. Some dogs may 'nip' or 'mouth' but for a lot of people this is unwanted behavior and what the adult owner may be able to cope with, a small child or elderly visitor will be unable to handle.

Please contact us with any training needs or recommendations. We are always on hand to help with non-judgmental, helpful advice.

Today marks National Bite Prevention Week.

As your pet's Veterinary Team, we want to advocate for your pets and ensure they are managed, cared for and understood. We unfortunately see a lot of ''bitey'' dogs, who have either bitten other pets, owners, family members or our team. Please know that we are here to help and the team thrive to ensure your pet's safety at all times.

This week, we will share tips and advice on how to prevent bites and warning signs to look out for.

Did you know...
About 50% of parents allow their child to play or cuddle with the dog as much as they want. The same number leaves the child and dog unsupervised.

You should never leave your pet and your chils unsupervised as this is where accidents can occur. Children are curious and will push the boundaries with pets unable to read their warning cues. Please never allow your children to lay on/sit on your pets, go in your pets bed/safe space or remove their food/treats or toys. This is the most common thing that children get bitten for.

A study has found dog bites suffered by young children are often inflicted by the family dog and such incidents frequently occur, despite the presence of an adult.
