A year ago today. Lena, Trina and Freya completed their walking challenge and raised ยฃ803 (plus over ยฃ100 more in Gift Aid) to help us help local animals. They did this in memory of Milo, a much loved dog, who had sadly passed away a few weeks before. This video and Milo's story is told to supporters young and old at school assemblies, WI talks and corporate meetings as it promotes a beautiful message of love.
Miles for Milo really is the gift that keeps giving, inspiring others to do acts of kindness. Just for a minute, let Milo be your best friend by watching the video.

More amazing gifts for our fundraising. This beautiful dish and Christmas decoration has been kindly donated by Jade from Sparkly Place. Check out their site for amazing gift ideas and they also run workshops where you can make your own items.

Like many other local businesses, Jade saw our posts asking for contributions for raffle and tombola prizes which we'll use in our partnership events with Colchester Pride, Support our Paras, Royal Association for Deaf people and Guts UK Charity as the Mayor of Colchester's 5 charities of the year. If you want to get involved and have something we could use to raise money for great causes, please let us know and we can help you reach new audiences ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ˜€

A massive thank you to Alex who has donated several items of jewellery and cat toys from her Trendy Cat range. Alex responded to our appeal for raffle prizes for the events we're doing with Support our Paras, Colchester Pride , Royal Association for Deaf people, and Guts UK as the Mayor of Colchester's charities of the year. It's so great to be supported by local businesses and when we met Alex we were so impressed with her range of animal related products that we bought some to sell in our Prettygate Shop. Alex also runs offering health and beauty treatments as well as Alex & Friends dog walking and cat sitting service.

Working in partnership is such a great way to build support and we're happy to promote and support those who help us. We'll display Alex's cards and flyers and give them some attention on our website & social media pages

DANGERS โ˜ ๏ธ FOR YOUR PETS ๐Ÿฐ AT HALLOWEEN ๐ŸŽƒ - CHOCOLATE ๐Ÿซ

While it is widely known that chocolate is toxic โ˜ ๏ธ to dogs ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ, it is often less recognized that other pets, including cats ๐Ÿฑ and rabbits ๐Ÿฐ, are also at risk from chocolate ๐Ÿซingestion.

The harmful component of chocolate ๐Ÿซ is called theobromine. Humans ๐Ÿ‘จ can metabolize theobromine efficiently, but pets process it at a much slower rate, leading to a build-up of toxins โ˜ ๏ธ in their systems. Theobromine poses a similar level of toxicity for cats ๐Ÿฑ as it does for dogs ๐Ÿถ. Generally, the darker the chocolate ๐Ÿซ, the greater the risk it poses to your pet.

Although small quantities of chocolate ๐Ÿซ are unlikely to be life-threatening, they can cause symptoms such as vomiting ๐Ÿคฎ and diarrhoea ๐Ÿ’ฉ. Conversely, if a large amount of chocolate ๐Ÿซ is ingested, pets may exhibit more severe symptoms, including seizures, muscle tremors, irregular heartbeats ๐Ÿ’“, and potentially fatal heart conditions ๐Ÿ’€.

Signs of Chocolate ๐ŸซPoisoning May Include:

- Diarrhoea ๐Ÿ’ฉ
- Vomiting ๐Ÿคฎ
- Rapid breathing or panting
- Increased thirst
- Frequent urination
- Shaking
- Elevated body temperature ๐ŸŒก
- Restlessness
- Abdominal discomfort
- Seizures
- Accelerated heart rate ๐Ÿ’“

If you suspect that your pet has consumed a significant quantity of chocolate ๐Ÿซ, it is crucial to contact your veterinarian ๐Ÿฉบ immediately.

Please note: Our animal care advice aims to help owners meet their animalโ€™s needs as required by law. We receive many calls from members of the public concerned about the welfare of animals, each one is assessed to determine the level of suffering. As a charity with limited resources weโ€™re not always able to respond in the way that would be ideal or as quickly as the emergency services can. In some instances we may not be able to respond at all, due to the way the RSPCA must prioritise the welfare concerns that are brought to our attention.
