I've just spotted this lovely post while I was waiting for the kettle to boil for warm feeds.

When I heard that my client was feeling under the weather, I immediately started plotting to make sure I had a helper for clipping. It was still icy and snow was falling as I packed up the clippers so it was only right to offer to help her finish off her jobs.

We hope she's feeling better soon and that it won't be long before she's back in the saddle, enjoying riding her super smart boy again.

❄️ ☃️ Show me your snow photos! ☃️ ❄️

Thankfully we've only got a little bit of snow. Definitely not enough to build a snowman, but still hugely inconvenient.

Head up, shoulders back and push on with your horsey chores - carefully though, so you don't slip! We all know we'll be out here until we're numb, lugging water and hay ensuring our horses are ok before we put the kettle on for ourselves.

We've got this! It's Spring in 75 days.

A few days ago my old girl Zimba was sent this lovely present by one of my clients - she's a very lucky girl! 🥰

Horse Straights Direct Xmas Tea Bags are made of hibiscus, rosehips, mint, marigold, hawthorn berries and liquorice root. They smell amazing and when I opened up the bag I was tempted to pop one in my thermos mug!

You literally pop the tea bag in a feed bowl, pour over hot water and make a horsey brew. Once it's ready and cooled empty the herbs into the water and use the whole infusion to dampen your feed.

Because Zimba's teeth aren't that great in her old age she must have mashy feeds. So each morning she's had a herby brew with a little mash - she's loving it!

Warm feeds go down a treat when it's super chilly and it's a great way of helping to keep her hydrated when she might not want to drink the ice cold water.

The final hours of 2025 are ticking away one by one. I absolutely cannot believe just how quickly this year has flown by. I've continued to have the best time at work this year - I am so incredibly lucky to be able to work with my passion, which is something that I will never take for granted.

Thank you to everyone for every single booking you've ever made, and for the bookings that you will make in the future. Thank you for every fabulous recommendation for my services, they are always much appreciated. You are all wonderful and I appreciate each and every single one of you - regardless of how often I see you. It is you and your wonderful horses and ponies that make my little business so very wonderful and successful - which is something else that I absolutely will never take for granted.

Happy New Year to you all. May it be healthy and prosperous, but most importantly full of horsey fun. I've got so many plans in mind for you all already. As we head into the new year remember that I only see your goals, I definitely don't believe in failure and we are a team, always. Xx

Fantastic winter weather, fantastic horses and fantastic people we're all crammed into my daylight hours today.

I've shared this video already on my personal page - just as darkness fell and I was reaching for my head torch, but I just have to share it here too.

🎬 Video credit goes to Super Susie and her awesome owner who have been clients for an awful lot of years. Love it when I'm invited over to play with them.

I've had a fantastic day out teaching today. It definitely felt good to be back outside with the horses after all the Christmas preparations, celebrations and family visiting.

Verity and Jack opted for a long reining /lunging session today instead of a ridden one. It was incredibly beneficial and I have given Verity the task to do this type of session regularly in the new year. It will help to build Jack's fitness and strength up ready for lots of fantastic lessons over the spring and summer.

Poles set out in a fan are one of my favourite exercises to do - both on the ground and ridden. Here's just a few reasons why this exercise is fantastic!
✨️The curved line encourages the horse to bend correctly through its body, which improves lateral suppleness and flexibility in the joints.
✨️It's a great little exercise for improving balance and hoof brain coordination - this is something that Jack definitely needs to improve on as he doesn't always know where his feet are or what to do with them!
✨️It activates the core and engages the hindquarters too. So that means that it is great for building overall strength, topline and general good muscle development without putting excessive strain on the joints.
✨️It can be done with poles on the ground, or raised poles. It can also be done in walk, trot and eventually canter.
✨️It's a great exercise to mentally work both horse and human too - it really makes you think and use your brain.

Does anyone else regularly use poles in a fan shape with their horse?

Ho ho ho! Well it's Christmas day and hopefully you've all woken up and found that you were indeed on The Nice List 🎅✨️🎄

For many of us mud and hay will play a big part in our Christmas celebrations. Around your horsey chores though I do hope you get to enjoy some downtime, good food and a glass of something very nice and maybe alcoholic!

Whether you are with family, alone or working through Christmas make sure you take a moment to give your horse an extra carrot or two and a good scratch. They are full of magic that touch our hearts everyday, but especially at this time of year when sometimes things can seem a little overwhelming.

I'd like to wish everyone a very merry Christmas, and send special wishes to my lovely clients - I've been blessed to recieve many gifts that are nestled under our tree, and I look forward to opening them a little later on. Thank you for making my Christmas special, but most importantly for making my little business wonderful - I appreciate each and every single one of you.

📸 Photo credit goes to Crunchie who is most definitely without doubt on The Nice List, in fact I think she might have been out helping Santa last night! Of course a photo credit goes to Santa too who has been working hard to sprinkle magic ✨️🎅🎄

Who else finds that Guinness just slips into their feedroom over Christmas and New Year?

For as long as I can remember my horses have always celebrated Christmas with a little tipple.

Obviously add to feed responsibly - no one wants a drunk and disorderly Equine 🎅🐴🍺

Today is the Winter Solstice - Autumn is done and dusted and winter has officially begun.

But do you know what else today marks?

It is the shortest day of the year which means that the day light hours will slowly but surely start to increase again.

I mean we've still got a few months of horrible weather, mud, ice when it finally decides to get cold and questioning life choices to get through - but the days pulling out will definitely make that seem a little easier.

I've just about managed to keep most lessons ticking over so far and hopefully the coming winter months will be kind. I'm super excited for the new year and Spring - I've got some new lesson enquiries and I've got so many lesson plans and fun to have with all my current clients.

📸 Photo credit goes to Dusty - we've been working on building up her body strength and slowing down her very buzzy brain. Super excited to see how this girl and her lovely owner progress when the better weather returns. We've been doing a good job at ticking over so far this winter.

Cuteness alert - doesn't she look gorgeous 😍

Lilly who I affectionately call Midget Pants had her routine clip last week. She is long retired but clipping is still such an important part of her routine management.

Lilly has had laminitis before, so we keep her clipped to help with managing her weight control - don't worry her owner doesn't let her freeze! Keeping her hair off and only popping a rug on when absolutely needed means that Lilly's body has to work a little harder to keep her warm and therefore burns off some fat too. I know we're mid winter but if Lilly doesn't drop a little weight this time of year then she could be in real trouble when the spring grass starts to come through! Summer bodies are built in the winter - horses and ponies are supposed to drop weight in winter to leave room for safe weight gain in spring and summer.

Lilly also suffers from equine asthma and by trial and error her owner has discovered that keeping her clipped helps with breathing flare ups too. There's less dust and irritation during grooming sessions with no hair, and she stays cooler too. So clipping Lilly year round provides several win factors for her.

We have a little help from some sleepy juice when we clip as Midget Pants can be a little bit of a fidget bum. Our sleepy juice of choice is Relaquine as she's a bit of a lightweight when it comes to sedation and it works perfectly to take the edge off of her. Lilly is getting better and better each time we clip, and I'm pretty sure we'll be able to clip her without any sleepy juice soon.

Is it a real tree or an artificial tree?

Comment below and let me know how you're doing with the festive decorations!

We've not got our tree up yet - that would be far too organised and stuff for us! Here's a photo from the tree we had in 2017 though!
