Lots of firsts for this little foal called spunky
First time having a head collar on.
First time picking its feet up.
First trim.
Once he knew we weren’t going to hurt him he relaxed and was very good. A bit of patience and understanding goes a long way.

Ive had a lot of people phoning me worried about the sole breaking up with big chunks coming off, as you can see in this video.
Due to the extreme dry conditions the feet have become hard and brittle, the sole which normally exfoliated as it grows didn’t , it stayed on the foot. With the rain lately all that dry compacted sole is now lifting and beginning to flake off. It’s nothing to worry about it’s completely natural.
The walk up after shoeing you can see the difference it’s made, walking without the twist.
Following on from a previous post this horse has a contracted DDFT and was shod with a pattern bar shoe to load the foot evenly.
On walk up at the end of the first shoeing I could see the limb was twisting on break over, due to the incorrect reciprocal tendon tensions. so I needed to adjust the shoe to compensate for this action.
