STRAY CAT brought in. Please share.
We’ve had this gorgeous young female cat brought into us this afternoon, having been found without an owner.
If you recognise her please contact the practice on 01260222999.
She is receiving treatment for a respiratory issue.
Photo evidence, and knowledge of the collar that she was wearing will be required to claim ownership.
Who wants a story with a lovely outcome…? 🐶🥰🐶
Meet the delightful Tilly. (OK I’m a bit biased where a black Labrador is concerned).
Vet Liam first saw Tilly back in July this year. She had recently lost her canine companion and was feeling a bit blue. Her wonderful owners had put Tilly’s depression down to missing her best friend, but as she wasn’t getting any better decided to bring her in for a check up.
Blood tests were taken in that 1st appointment and were run at the practice, with results available just 30 minutes or so later. These showed some changes with Tilly’s liver, and so some additional blood tests were requested. A few days later we performed an abdominal ultrasound scan, which showed some physical, visible changes with her liver.
On discussion with the owner, we decided to call in a visiting specialist ultrasonographer to shed more light on Tilly’s issues.
On this second scan, our specialialist advised that as there were some changes in a couple of different areas, that we should perform exploratory surgery, and get biopsies of Tilly’s liver and intestines.
As you can imagine this is fairly major surgery. But not phased, our surgical team swung into action on 3rd August, and performed a full exploratory surgery of Tilly’s tummy- examining and palpating her liver, kidneys, spleen, lymph nodes, stomach and the full length of her intestines.
As suggested by our specialist ultrasonographer, we took biopsies of her liver and intestines, and sent those samples to the lab for analysis.
Fortunately the biopsy results showed an inflammatory condition rather than anything more sinister, and she is being successfully managed with medication and dietary support.
The video below was taken just 48 hours after her major surgery; as you can see, not only was she acting like nothing much had happened, but she still had puppy-dog eyes for the team who cared for her throughout. And we love her too!! 😍
Rest assured at Millie
After the post we shared just yesterday from another practice about ticks, look who we saw today.
This is a tick that our vet, James, removed from a poorly dog today. The owner brought the patient in thinking he had a poorly ear as he seemed sore.
On examination, there wasn’t anything wrong inside the ear, but James quickly recognised this little critter who was well and truly attached to the skin; Busy feeding from our patient’s bloodstream!
UK ticks can transmit Lyme disease, which is a chronic, debilitation disease.
Even more worryingly, ticks from overseas can carry several other diseases, and present a significant risk to our imported dog population.
Needless to say, we removed this tick from our patient this evening, sent him home on a course of antibiotics in case of infection at the site of the tick bite, and a tablet which will kill any fleas and tick on him in less than 48 hours. The same tablet also protects against both roundworm and the potentially fatal lungworm too.
So, if you look through our recent posts, you’ll see that in the last few weeks, we’ve had
- significant flea infestation. TREATED ✅
- puppy with roundworms. TREATED ✅
- dog with lungworm: sad outcome 😭
- dog with ticks: TREATED ✅
What’s more, all of these can be protected by just a single tablet (dogs) or spot on (cats) once a month; and it’s included in our monthly paid health care plan.

After much anticipation, we are pleased to announce that the refit upstairs at Millie's Vets, is now finished and is fully functional!
From yesterday onwards, consultations will now take place upstairs, along with surgeries and procedures. However, if you and/or your pet cannot use the stairs, don't worry, for the time being we have kept a downstairs consultation room open for those who can't access the upstairs floor.
The team are very excited about the refurbishment and are now eagerly awaiting the downstairs work to begin!
