Little before and after of a horse on my books with palmar hoof failure, after trying wider shoes with onion heels to provide a larger surface area for heel support/expansion, we weren’t getting anywhere and the back half of the hoof was showing no improvement, so today we opted for some 3D frog support pads along with some dental impression material to spread the load on the back of the hoof evenly and take some pressure of these low weak heels and hopefully give them a chance to grow and become stronger🤙

From a straight piece of steel to a shoe on the foot doing its job! Pair of 3/4 fullered Hinds made early in the morning for a lovely horse I had to do in the afternoon, nothing I love more than seeing my own handmades going on well. Safe to say the owner was happy with them too🤙

Trying something different in the forge today with a double caulkin copper roadster shoe, always striving for perfection🤙
A shoe like this would have been used in the past for ponies working in coal mines(pit ponies) due to the fact that copper would not give off any sparks during the pony’s working day in case there was any flammable gasses present in the mine… really interesting shoe!
