Congleton Veterinary Centre was established in April 2008, with the aim of providing easy access to high quality, affordable veterinary care for domestic pets living in and around the Congleton area. Knowing that pets really are part of the family is key to understanding the needs of our clients; that once under our care, you have invested a huge degree of trust in our small but dedicated team of

veterinary professionals. We reward this trust by offering a very personal service, a comfortable environment in which you are free to discuss any aspect of your pets’ health and welfare, in complete confidence. We also work very closely with referral specialists for those cases which are more complicated. We're very pleased that Rolo is making a good recovery, after being extremely poorly recently.

He presented a fortnight ago severely lethargic and not himself at all. A definite contrast to his usual bouncy character. Bloods were largely unremarkable, however his heart sounded very muffled and quiet when Struan listened with his stethoscope. Imaging was recommended, and a very serious heart condition was diagnosed - pericardial effusion with cardiac tamponade!

This is where fluid builds up between the heart and its outer sac (the pericardium), and as the pressure increases it compromises normal heart function. It is a serious life-threatening emergency!

With the assistance of Georgia and Jenny's excellent nursing skills, Struan drained the fluid and this was sent off for analysis. It didn't look nice at all. Rolo on the other hand was much brighter afterwards. The fluid however was confirmed to be a septic/infectious fluid, and despite antibiotics it returned after a few days.

Consequently he was referred to Pride Veterinary Referrals, and they operated to partially remove his pericardial sac and drain the fluid, flush his chest, etc. Chest drains were inserted, and drainage continued whilst in hospital.

He recovered amazingly, though, and was soon eating on his own. He's now back home and on strict cage rest for a few weeks, but is quickly returning to the old Rolo we know and love.

Well done Rolo, and bravo to his very dedicated owners.

It's almost the end of 2024, and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients for their support and custom over the year.

In 2025, we plan to focus our attention and efforts on the best preventative care options for your pet(s); for those on our PHC plans (essential and plus), as well as those who aren't. So, please watch this space for further updates and news.

Back to tonight though, what may be a pleasure for some can be a pain for others. So, please be mindful of your pets and those of your neighbours whilst seeing in the New Year.

We decided in the clinic not to do a secret Santa this year but to buy food for the amount we would have spent on presents
The charities were very grateful indeed for all your donations ❤️x
