The Bowen Technique is a simple remedial muscle manipulation therapy treating not just the symptoms but the body as a whole. By addressing the central nervous system, it stimulates the circulation and lymphatic systems removing toxins, releasing muscle spasm and aiding the body to re-align itself. treat humans, horses and dogs. The experience of a treatment is gentle, subtle and very relaxing, which makes Bowen so unique. There is no manipulation or adjustment of hard tissue (bones) and no insertion of needles. For humans the treatment is carried out through light clothing and it is suitable for ANY age of person!! Although as therapists we do not diagnose the following conditions have been found to respond well to the Bowen Technique: Digestive Problems, Hay Fever, Headache / Migraine, Tennis Elbow, Neck Problems / Whiplash, Frozen Shoulder, Pelvic Pain,Bronchial / Respiratory Problems, Groin Strain, RSI / Carpal Tunnel, IBS / Kidney Problems, Back Sprain / Strains, Sports injuries, Sciatica, Hamstring & Knee Problems, Muscle Pain, Chronic Fatigue, MS, ME, PMT. In animals it is ideal to use on any age of animal, after injury or surgery or just as an MOT treatment for peace of mind. Again conditions which respond well are: Muscle Spasm or Atrophy, Sore or Cold Back, Uneven Muscle Development, Unlevelness / Disunited Gait, Unexplained Stiffness, Loss of Performance, Change in Temperament, Weakened Immune System, Respiratory Conditions. This list is not exhaustive and this therapy has also shown to be an ideal tool for pre and post competition maintenance. Clients in Dressage, Showjumping, Eventing, Driving and Endurance have commented on the difference it has made to their horses way of going and therefore their well being and longevity of competitive career.

Bowen is unique in that Therapists work with the body, rather than using any force or hard manipulation. We also leave breaks during the session, initiating “interoception” – your brain’s perception of your body’s state, transmitted from receptors on all your internal organs.

The therapist will make Bowen moves drawing attention to an area of the body, then during the breaks the brain asks the body "how do you feel, and do I need to do anything about that?"

You may not have heard of interoception yet, but it is one of the fastest moving areas in neuroscience and psychology. Bowen is the only therapy that deliberately leaves breaks, allowing interoception to take place. It's a very gentle muscle manipulation that works across the whole body, it instigates changes to bring balance to the body and helps to maintain those changes. It's great for injuries, muscle spasms, sports rehabilitation, tension & stress and can be used on humans & animals
