(4)

Based in Chipstead Surrey, we live in a quiet residential road and within easy walking distance to Banstead Woods and Farthing Downs. I have a big passion for dogs, particularly Spaniels and have over 30 years of caring for them. I’ve always been animal mad and grew up with a Springer Spaniel and a menagerie of other small household pets. I bought my own Springer Spaniel as soon as I bought my fir

st home and continued to have one until we lost our last one three years ago. We then made the decision to ‘downsize’ to a Cocker Spaniel and ended up with two!! Whether you’re working, having a day out, a night away or planning a holiday, I understand the worry and importance of finding the right temporary home for your cherished family member. I provide day care and overnight care in my own home where your dog will quickly become part of the family. I'm exclusive to non working type Spaniels only and Small spaniel type breeds, eg Cocker Spaniels, Cockapoos, Cavachons etc.. Please visit my website www.thehappyspaniels.co.uk for more information. Alternatively you can email... [email protected] or call/text 07853 164407
I look forward to hearing from you
I am also CRB checked and fully insured.

Please think about your dog before taking them out to enjoy the snow. This might look cute and comical but I wouldn't fancy those weights hanging from my ears. Likewise, balls like this also accumulate on their pads which can make every step painful; imagine trying to walk with pebbles stuck to the soles of your feet. If you rub a non-water based oil on their paws eg Vaseline, coconut oil or olive oil it should stop this from happening, or at least make it less severe....you could even rub some on the bottom of their ears and under their bellys if the coat doesnt cover it..

FLEA AND WORM PREVENTION...

To understand why it’s so important to use natural prevention we need to know a little more about chemical flea and powerfulworm treatments and how they work. Chemicals flea and tick treatments are toxic pesticides that accumulate in your dogs blood and skin, Ticks and fleas have to bite and suck your dogs blood before becoming paralysed and dying from the pesticides. It can take many hours for the fleas and ticks to be killed in which time they could still spread disease.

These powerful chemical pesticides can also cause neurological issues in our dogs, in September 2018 the FDA put a warning on Isoxazoline flea and tick products because they have been associated with neurological adverse reactions in dogs that have no medical history for these issues, side effects range from, seizures, convulsions, skin disorders, ataxia and even death!! Here are some of the Isoxazoline products.

Bravecto Fluralaner
Nexgard Afoxolaner
Simparica Sarolaner
Easecto Sarolaner
Credelio Lotilaner.
Nexgard Spectra milbemycin oxime + Afoxolaner.
Bravecto Plus fluralaner / moxidectin
Revolution Plus Selamectin and Sarolaner
Simparica Triple Sarolaner moxidectin

Using a natural prevention is much safer and equally effective if done properly, the main differences using natural prevention is you aim to repel fleas and ticks so they don’t go on to your dog in the first place, with chemical treatments they have to bite and suck your dogs blood before being killed! Yuk!

To prevent worms you can use ground raw pumpkin seeds in their food. Pumpkin seeds are from the GOURD family they contain an amino acid call cucurbitin this paralyses and eliminates worms. You can fresh garlic (yes garlic is safe for dogs in small quantities) feed half a teaspoon per 10kg of dog, always use fresh garlic chop and leave to sit for 15mins to release the allicin, do not feed garlic to pups under 6 months, pregnant or whelping bi***es and Japanese breeds, always check medications. VermX herbal biscuits or liquid can also be used as a preventative measure for worms. Any kind of foods or treats with fur still attached is a great natural wormer. Its important to do a worm count this is a simple p**p test, it is inexpensive and very easy to do from wormcount.com, never chemically worm a dog before doing a worm count to first check if they need worming.

To protect against fleas and ticks neem oil and neem and neem powder are all very effective used topically on your dogs coat! Always dilute neem oil and don’t use for pregnant or whelping bi***es or breeding dogs as it may act as a contraceptive. Apple cider vinegar water mix spritzer is also a good flea and tick repellent you can also mix in a few drops of essential oils like lavender, lemongrass, eucalyptus and patchouli. Greens for healthy pets does a great spray called don’t bug me! Greens also have lots of other natural options like Hedge row hounds this is great mix called natures bounty add to food keep the fleas and ticks away, Biospotix do natural spot ons and collars, Herbal dog co do a natural spot on treatment, Billy no mates is also a good choice. Food grade diatomaceous earth is made from tiny sea creatures it dehydrates the parasites and their eggs so they die. Make sure you buy FOOD GRADE care should be taken not to breath in the powder by you or your pet. It can be used to sprinkle around the home to kill parasite and their eggs. Dust DE powder through coat if fleas are present then shampoo out taking care not to let your dog breath it in. It Amber collars are great they create a magnetic charge over the dogs coat keeping the fleas and ticks off! Using an amber collar alongside other preventatives works great. There really is no need to use powerful chemical pesticides on you pet when natural prevention works equally as well and is completely safe 🐶❤️ By karla pearson

Back in March, I posted about Ernie having seizures brought on by BAYER flea and tick treatment products, so during lockdown, I have spent alot of time researching alternative natural treatment products. It was a slow start but I think I have finally cracked it and so far so good 🙂. I've also been reading about the various problems caused by over vaccinating so thought I would share this with you.

As veterinary surgeries reopen after lockdown, you may find if your dog has missed a vaccination booster, that they say that the whole course of 3 should be restarted. Please be aware that it states in each vaccine guideline information sheet from the companies that produce the vaccines, that this is not needed. A single booster is sufficient, but you can also have a blood test called a titre test done instead to check your dogs circulating levels of immunity and even a booster may not be needed. Some also choose to use homeopathic nosode remedies instead.
If you vaccinate your dogs you should know that after the 12mth booster, the guidance is that boosters are given no more frequently than at least 3 years apart until the dog is 7, and then should not be needed ever again - unfortunately these guidelines are not enforced and some still try to give yearly boosters, increasing the risk of illnesses being caused by the toxins in vaccines. This has been the recommendation for vets to follow since 2011 from WASAVA -World Small Animal Veterinary Association.

I'm not here to slander or scare monger but I wanted to bring this to as many peoples attention as possible. In October last year, about 36 hours after applying BAYER advocate flea treatment, Ernie had a seizure. It was pretty much dismissed by the vets that the flea treatment could possibly have caused the seizure, but it scared and concerned me enough not to use it again. Not really thinking too much about it, I put a BAYER Seresto tick collar on Ernie at the weekend, and yesterday evening, approx 48 hours of wearing the collar, he had a seizure. Quickly realising the possible correlation between the two episodes I removed the collar. He had another seizure at 5.30 this morning and again at 3.00 this afternoon. Thankfully at this moment in time he is fine, but the toxins could be in his bloodstream for another few days so he could be subjected to more seizures 😫. I've spoken to the vet and he's recognised the likelihood and possibility of the two episodes being linked so I feel compelled to bring it peoples attention. I know these products are used daily on thousands of animals without any problems, but please don't assume just because its prescribed by the vet that its safe to use on your pets. After his seizure in October, I read lots of different articles about the safety of these products and this latest seizure has confirmed that my findings and suspicions in October must have been correct. I'm kicking myself for not recognising this could happen and I'm praying that Ernie makes a full recovery. In the meantime i'm looking into natural alternatives. Please look after your babies, their whole being is totally in your hands x
