Apologies for the shaky & grainy video but I wanted to share gorgeous Sausage being very brave eating in front of me. After I've fed in the old shed I now put out a tin of food + biscuits in the new shed. I opened the shed door & Sausage was curled up asleep on the chair. He usually jumps down & escapes through the cat flap so I was pleased when he stayed on the chair. I quietly put a tin of food out & topped up the biscuits before putting a sachet of Whiskas + biscuits on a plate for him. I was so pleased he trusted me enough to eat in front of me. He is in the new shed a lot which is fantastic.

Todays feed rounds. It was cold as I fed the colonies but I was delighted it wasn't wet or windy! There was a good turnout at each site & the cats also seemed grateful for a dry day.

Tonights Goodnight Kitty is sweetheart Marrol. She had her last 7 teeth removed & to be honest I'm surprised she had that many.The original colony members at Bernards site of which Marrol was matriarch were very in**ed & had bad dentition, a short stature & prone to skin problems & entropion eyelids. I adored all the colony & Marrol is very precious.
**A major dental is £500 so if anyone would like to donate to the Fagin's vet account at Bell & Partners (02476 602564) it would help enormously.

You will have seen Fagin's & other rescues ask people not to use fireworks for New Year celebrations & Bonfire Night. Last night fosterer Kirstie lost one of her own beloved cats due to noisy fireworks. Sweetheart Flower was only 19 months old & came into care from Kevin's garden colony with her siblings & mum cat Bella. Flower was found to have kidney problems post spay so Kirstie decided to adopt her & mum Bella. Last night nearby fireworks literally frightened the life out of little Flower & her heart failed. Kirstie is understandably devastated & we are heartbroken for her.
Run Free beautiful Flower, your life mattered & were it not for the thoughtless disregard of others you would still be here.🐾💔🌈

The first day of the year & sat at the Emergency Vets with sweetheart Marrol. She has some sort of dental problem causing excessive salivation/ drooling & although she wants to eat she can't. Hoping they can give her a long acting antibiotic injection + pain relief so Ross can see her tomorrow.
Positive vibes please & if anyone would like to donate to the Bell & Partners vet account towards a dental that would help tremendously.One of my own cats needed a dental a week before Christmas & it cost over £500 so funds are much needed.

Well here we are at the end of another crazily busy Rescue year. We've lost some beloved cats which broke both ours & supporters hearts but we've saved some beauties too. Tonights Goodnight & Goodbye to 2023 kitty is sweetheart Buffy from the Bernards site colony. She & her siblings are amongst the lucky ones taken into care.
I want to thank Fagin's fosterer's James, Kirstie & Clare & Grae for their hard work bringing round semi feral/feral/stray & street cats. Giving over their homes to the cats is a big ask & Fagin's is blessed to have such good fosterers.
Thanks also to Kay, the legend behind Fagin's Fabulous Fundraisers who keeps Fagin's afloat, without Kay we would have closed a while ago.
Thank you to Stewart , Sarah & Matt Tilt who regularly step in to help with feed rounds & provide a shoulder to cry on when I struggle with the burden of rescue. Thank you to Lin McManus from Coventry Cat Group whose ear I often bend for advice & support.
Thank you for another years care from head vet Ross & the team at Bell & Partners vets & our friends at PDSA Coventry who have helped Fagin's so much.
Thank you to regular supporters who quietly keep on donating food to our tiny Rescue ensuring the cats have enough to eat.
Thank you to the supporters who donate to the vet account, PayPal & with cash which ensures the cats both in our care & out in the community have their medical needs paid for.
Thank you to supporters old & new who have stuck by us though thick & thin, through laughter, tears & tantrums, you are a lovely loyal bunch.
It takes a small army to keep Fagin's going & I feel blessed by the best.
If you are celebrating New Year have a lovely time, keep safe & please, don't use fireworks. If you're having a quiet one with those you love be happy & contented.

Last feed round of the year. It was cold but thankfully dry as I fed each site. As temperatures have dropped again I added an extra layer of straw to the winter shelters at the industrial site. The existing straw was still dry & clean & there were cat shapes in the straw where Big Sid & the gang had snuggled into it. I added two small polystyrene boxes lined with straw in the new shed at Bernards watched by Tortilla, Jet & Choccy.Bobbi had snuggled under his knitted blanket & made himself a snuggly nest on his self heating pad in the allotment shed.
I hope all the colony cats are snuggled up now & that the new year firework madness doesn't scare them. It's always a pleasure being around the colony cats & never a chore.

Tonights Goodnight Kitty is sweetheart April who got her wish & spent time out in the catio with 2Tone & Jessie earlier. They had a couple of hours playing outside & were very happy bless them.

It was a mild 11 degrees & dry as Stewart & I fed the colonies today but the stiff breeze made it feel a bit chilly. Shouty & Bobbi greeted us at the allotment gates & at Bernards site Tortilla led the gang to greet Stewart, he's a favourite of theirs! There were no cats around at the industrial site until I banged the food Tim & then Mimi, Ginge & Big Sid trotted along the pavement & tucked into their dinners.

The weather was foul again this afternoon so I waited for a dry interval to feed the colony cats. The cats as always were eager for their food & I lingered to watch them eat. Temperatures are dropping to 2 degrees so hopefully the cats are now snuggled in their sheds & shelters for the night.
If you feed a stray or feral please ensure they have somewhere safe & dry to shelter. Forgo a couple of takeaway meals/a visit to have nails & lashes done/ a botox session etc & instead invest in a cat shelter. Line it with straw & make life better for a cat down on its luck. Then get it neutered & prevent kittens being born to a life on the streets. I can guarantee the warm fuzzy feeling of helping an animal in need lasts longer than the indigestion of a takeaway or the short term effects of false nails & lashes!

Todays feed rounds. Grae & I did the feeds today & fortunately by the time we went out the awful winds & torrential rain has eased but each site was very muddy under foot & paw. Bobbi & Shouty were eager for their dinners at the allotment site. Grae shared the last of the chicken amongst each site which made him very popular!

Sweetheart Meezy had an appointment with vet Jen this afternoon. She saw him when he retired as a working cat a year ago & she removed several broken teeth for him. He'd been a bit off his food & the cause was Stomatitis & a bit of a wheeze. He's had a short acting steroid injection & a two week long acting Convenia antibiotic injection. He also had his ears cleaned (he came into care with a chronic ear mites problem) & his claws trimmed. Meezy is a sweetie & throughout he was a model patient. Back in his cat carrier he charmed vet nurses Rebecca & Phoebe by purring, making biscuits & head-booping to them through his carrier. They were putty in his paws!

Just the one photo from today's feed rounds. I had help today from my friend & former rescue volunteer Paula Hall. Handsome big old tom cat Sausage was curled up asleep on the chair in the new shed at Bernards site. We left him with a plate of sardines in tomato sauce. Each colony had another portion of chicken that Rik had bought for them as a Boxing Day treat & they thoroughly enjoyed it!

Good morning Everyone

Kay here and I just want to remind you that Santa has reliably informed me (well the postman dressed as Santa did) that the lists have been checked not once, but twice and all the cats in Fagins care have been good!!

Seriously for a minute, I want to take this opportunity of thanking Pat for everything she does, I know there is a team of people to thank but I really just wanted to say thank you for starting Fagins, thank you for keeping Fagins going in the full face of adversity, thank you for being the voice and often, the target, when you fight in their corner. Without you there would be no team and I am sure I speak for the team who help you, we are all proud to be part of Fagin’s.

It has been a difficult year with heartbreaking losses, struggling financially and having to react to emergencies, but through it all, you have shone through.

So thank you from me and here is to 2024 which no doubt will bring more challenges but also more opportunities for you and team to shine.

Former long term stray Tommy was the last neuter & return of this year. I collected him from Marcella who had been caring for him & reached out to Fagin's for help. Estimated to be 9-10 years old Tommy wears the battle scars of a typical unneutered street cat. I have a soft spot for the beat up old Toms so fell instantly in love with him. Now neutered, flea/wormed & microchipped Tommy will join Marcella's other beautiful rescue cats & enjoy a home for Christmas!
Many thanks to Marcella for caring for Tommy & giving him a home & to our friends at the PDSA for neutering space again. Another example of someone in the community community, a Rescue & a Vets working together.
