Just a reminder.. it is getting to a very busy time of year and appointments can be difficult to fit into a full diary.. to avoid disappointment book your scan when you have mated your girl.. Best contact is whatsapp or message my page as I am quite often driving between clients..

For caring owners & responsible breeders, once you take on the care of a pregnant animal, you become the midwife!

After devouring a copy of 📖 one of your first jobs is to schedule an appointment with an approved ultrasound professional.

We recommend doing this two weeks after mating to get availability with your preferred scanning professional.

For dogs, most scanners recommend booking this appointment for between day 32-35 from mating.

As tempting as it is, we recommend against scanning before day 28 because absorption is more likely, and because at less than 1cm diameter, the embryonic sacs are often well hidden, so false negative diagnosis is much more likely.

For other species of pregnant animals, the optimum scanning time varies. Message us for advice on when to book your scan.

Many of the best scanners in the UK are members of the Animal Ultrasound Association. Contact us to find an approved scanner in your area.

Let's talk blood sampling?
When training for my qualification as a Registered Veterinary nurse and becoming a regulated professional, blood sampling was taken very very seriously. Lots of training, health and safety, theory and practice. I wasn't allowed to sample an awake patient until my mentors were confident in my ability. Through training I earnt my skills and worked hard to perfect technique.

I take the importance of professionalism and regulation very seriously and am held to my code of conduct and oath. But why is any of this important? Quite simply if something goes wrong, I am accountable. It isn't "just a blood sample" it's a schedule 3 procedure. Under the veterinary surgeons act 1966, blood samples can only be taken by a veterinary surgeon or a veterinary nurse directed by a veterinary surgeon. The animal in question MUST be under the care of the vet. It's really that simple.

So what does this mean?
🧬 At home blood sampling is illegal unless by a vet/supervised vet nurse.
💉 Progesterone testing by a non vet or supervised vet nurse...... Is illegal.
🩸The "breeder qualifications" currently suggesting and training people to blood sample...are directing people to break the law.

🩺Under the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966 it is illegal for anyone not suitably qualified and regulated to take venous blood samples of animals... Unless its a badger 🦡

I have had 3 calls from clients in 2 days who are dissatisfied with scans from other scanners in this area...If you are booking a scan, do your research, check their profiles and look at previous scan pictures..how competant are they? How many years experience?.. I have the latest veterinary grade machine which gives excellent scan results....please pay just once and give me a call first..

Pleased to be invited to scan a bitch today who was scanned yesterday by someone local, they were unsure if in whelp and suggested another scan in a weeks time..my new veterinary grade machine picked them up lovely and clear....
