It’s Bonfire night this Sunday, and many pets are frightened at this time, so here are some tips to help your pet feel less anxious:
*Take dogs for walks in the daylight.
*Close windows and curtains and turn on a radio or TV for background noise.
*Make them a hideaway indoors. Choose a location in the house they are familiar with, away from windows and doors. Have a familiar crate filled with their favourite blankets, toys and treats. Cover the crate with a blanket to make them feel safe. Allow them to hide and relax in this space.
*Use pheromone products to help ease their anxieties; such as Adaptil, Feliway or Pet Remedy!
*Any outdoor pets such as guinea pigs or rabbits should be given lots of places to hide inside their home, as well as an insulated covering of their enclosure to help them feel safe.
If your pet is fearful of fireworks, then please call us for further advice on how we can help them.

*UPDATE ON THE MISSING CAT*

This beautiful boy was found in a Coventry van after travelling up from Oxfordshire. He stayed with us for over a week in our care, while we tried to find his owner, unfortunately he wasn’t microchipped. After investigations, we discovered he was in fact a stray so he has been was castrated, chipped and spoilt with toys + cuddles! The cat - now named HERMES - was re-homed yesterday to a lovely owner based in Oxfordshire. We would like to wish Hermes a happy and healthy life with his new owner!! 🥳

It’s day 2 of rabbit awareness week and todays topic is companionship! Did you know that rabbits are very social animals? In the wild they live in warrens which can have as many as 50 rabbits living together. Therefore it makes sense that our pet rabbits have needs for companionship. Whether our pet rabbits live in pairs or groups companionship allows rabbits to communicate, cuddle, groom, comfort and express a range of natural behaviours together. However our pet rabbits don’t always make friends easily. When introducing new rabbit friends an appropriate bonding method needs to be followed.

If you have a solitary rabbit and are looking for some advice on introducing them to a friend, or any advice on appropriate rabbit bonding, please phone the practice to speak to one of our nurses.

This week is rabbit awareness week! And here at Godiva Vets we want to educate and support all rabbit owners to help give our pet rabbits the best life they can have!

This year the focus is on neutering! Neutering pet rabbits prevents unwanted litters, is an important factor in having harmonious pairs or groups of rabbits, and helps to prevent diseases for your rabbit as they get older. Did you know as high as 90% of female rabbits develop cancer of the uterus by age 5 if they aren’t neutered?

To support this years campaign we are offering our clients 10% off the cost of neutering their rabbits. Just phone the practice during this week to book the procedure!

🌼 Spring is definately here with all the daffodils popping up🌼
The bright flowers definately cheer us up, and Pugsley enjoys sniffing them on walks, but did you know that daffodils are toxic to dogs, if eaten!
The most dangerous part is the bulb as it contains high levels of lycorine and other alkaloids that's can cause gastrointestinal upset.

Symptoms of toxicity include
‼️Nausea and vomiting
‼️Drooling
‼️Diarrhoea
‼️rapid breathing
‼️seizures

If your pet has eaten any part of a daffodil contact us immediately for advice.

HOW TO START BRUSHING YOUR PETS TEETH - we know brushing is the best way to prevent dental disease in dogs. As Kevin is showing us, it can be an enjoyable daily activity and it can be started at any age...
Step 1 start by getting them use to touching their face and mouth, gently lifting their lips
Step 2 Slowly get them used to touching the inside of their mouth, treat and praise them after each session
Step 3 keep practicing! These steps can take weeks and sometimes months until they are comfortable, take your time!
Step 4 now you can try gently touching your pets teeth with a tooth brush, build up to brushing a couple of teeth at a time in a circular motion. Remember to praise and reward them after each session
Step 5 progress to brushing all the teeth, remember even when they are very used to it, they should still have a reward each time (Kevin enjoys his carrot after each session)
Step 6 finally add a little dog toothpaste to the brush when brushing
