Good afternoon! We are trying to remind people before their visit to remember their horses passports… this is proving to be really useful so we will endeavour to give reminders for our routine appointments the day before the visit. If for any reason you need to cancel a scheduled visit please give us at least 24 hours (one working days) notice so we can fit someone else in to that appointment! Many thanks! Mel x

We are pleased to be able to offer shockwave treatment for those horses which are in need. Here is a little bit of information about shockwave therapy. For any further questions and prices please contact the clinic on the normal number.

What can shockwave therapy treat?

Extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) is an emerging new technology for treating musculoskeletal problems, soft tissue and bone injuries in horses. ESWT is noninvasive and used to stimulate healing, so that horses can return to a level of full fitness and useful activity without recurrence of disease.
Shockwave stimulates the body’s own repair process by increasing the blood flow to affected areas, which accelerates healing and often results in quicker relief from pain. It also helps heal chronic inflammation, stimulates collagen, which connects and supports tissue, and also breaks up calcium deposits.

Shockwave therapy has been found to be most therapeutically beneficial treatment for injuries at the soft tissue-bone interface. These areas are often difficult to medicate, and unsuitable for surgery. Therefore, the non-invasive and focused attributes of ESWT have proved extremely valuable.

Interesting case today, a 3 year old gelding with a wolf tooth on the lower arcade which was causing issues with the bit, and referred to us for removal by their EDT. The crown was very large and there was minimal movement so an X-ray was taken to assess the root. The tooth was removed under standing sedation and local anaesthetic and came out well with minimal soft tissue damage. Not as easily removed as normal wolf teeth though!

Meg and I have been doing dental examinations today. It is important to have your horse regularly checked by a veterinary surgeon or equine dental technician.
This little pony had a very small mouth and we used our newly designed power float to access the teeth at the back of the mouth with ease.

Busy afternoon and evening on call! This was an interesting case this evening, a mare found in the field salivating and depressed. This was retrieved carefully from the back of her throat.. it had damaged some of the tissue at the back of the mouth. Hopefully she will feel better now! Wishing her a speedy recovery 🤞
Her owners were happy to share this to make people aware that these things happen sadly.
