How to build a solid recall:

1. Understand what your dog finds reinforcing and punitive so you can reinforce coming when called and avoid inadvertently punishing it.

2. Start in a low distraction environment so your dog can easily learn what you are teaching them.

3. Manage the training so they can easily get it right and access reinforcement so as to avoid errors.

4. Keep it short, fun and gradually add in different levels of distractions. Start at home, then outside in a quiet location, then in the park at a quiet time, then eventually in the park when it's busy.
