Another lovely testimonial, this time from Little Max and his owners ❤️🐶❤️
“At the end of March 21, Max our 2 1/2 year old Cavapoo, suddenly started to lose control of his rear leg movement.
After consulting our local vet he was immediately referred to Moorview Referrals for a scan, which showed a grade 5 ruptured disc. We were advised with this injury the possibility of recovery was slim.
He was discharged after two days unable to use his rear legs and doubly incontinent. He had a catheter inserted for urine.
He then commenced twice weekly physiotherapy and laser treatment at Moorview and daily physiotherapy at home.
At this time he could only walk by having his back legs suspended by a sling. He had his catheter removed and his urine was expressed.
After five weeks post op, the first breakthrough came when he started to use his back legs to walk, albeit in a wobbly uncoordinated manner. In the following weeks his improvement continued to such an extent that the physiotherapist discharged him and he started hydrotherapy.
At his six monthly review, the operating vet was delighted with his progress. By now his walking was becoming more consistent and although he was still doubly incontinent, he could now signal to us that he needed to go.
Other significant improvements noted were, running, chasing a ball, climbing over a step threshold, getting down from the sofa and managing to poo unaided.
To date, progress continues focusing on strengthening his back legs by hydrotherapy and improving his general physical fitness.
