February saw European butter and cream markets soften due to increased cream volumes. However, we're now witnessing signs of a rebound, with both picking up this week. This resilience is a positive indicator amidst a complex market landscape.

Skimmed Milk Powder (SMP) is facing more pressure, maintaining a relatively stable €2500 for a month, but recent trades suggest a downward trend. Cheese markets, on the other hand, remain stable.

We spoke to Chris Inett of T S Inett Ltd., detailing his experience with our SY Tennyson barley variety. His insights offer valuable perspectives on crop management and yield. 🚜☀

"I’m Chris Inett from T S Inett Ltd and we farm 12 miles from Bridgenorth on a predominately sandy loam arable farm. We have some livestock to add nutrition to very hungry soil that needs feeding, so we are very conscious of what nutrition it needs and what is taken from the soil when growing our arable crops. In doing so, it is vital to have cereal crops that will stand well.

Our 2024 harvest saw us grow SY Tennyson for Wynnstay group for the first time. It very much suits our cropping profile. SY Tennyson stans well, yet still provides a good yield of straw, it yields well and responds to a fungicide program without being too heavy on cost. In 2024 we drilled this variety very late due to the wet spring we encountered.

It was drilled on the 12th of April 24, 20.5 hectares, yielding 161.38 tonnes on our weighbridge at an average of 14.3% moisture content. I could not ask for any more than that after such a late drilling date, this variety has great potential.

In early 2023 sheep grazed stubble turnips after which we sprayed 20t/acre of F.Y.M to put underneath the 2023 crop of potatoes. The 2024 crop of SY Tennyson benefits from the nutrition that remains in the soil."
