Scooby Spanish Dog Rescue UK is responsible for rehoming abandoned and often abused dog from Spain to the UK. We work alongside the registered charity Scooby Protectoria de Animales in Medina Del Campo, Northern Spain. SSDRUK is run entirely by volunteers who are responsible for finding permanent adoption homes throughout the UK and take care of all the stages from bringing your chosen Spanish res
cue from the shelter to the UK. Our aim is to help Scooby Medina rehome their abandoned, abused and mis-treated dogs. Sadly there is simply not enough demand at this present time to all be rehomed in Spain and this will not change until the current Spanish laws are amended to include the hunting dog. SSDRUK has now also established their own rescue premises in Wistaston, Cheshire where we have the space to temporarily shelter up to 20 dogs who are on their way to seeking their own permanent home with families throughout the UK. There will sometimes be available a small number of un-adopted dogs which will be available for meet and greets, strictly by appointment only. The work of SSDRUK is responsible for feeding and looking after these dogs and all their needs whilst in our care. Alternatively dogs which are pre-adopted from Spain also all arrive at our shelter in Wistaston, Cheshire. There is then a 48 hour period before collection to comply with DEFRA new ruling. It is the responsibility of the adopters to collect their dog from the premises after the 48 hour window. You can contact us anytime on Facebook messenger regarding any questions you may have about any of the dogs which are being offered up for adoption, how we operate or possibly even if you want to offer help in anyway. If you think you have found your perfect canine partner on this page, please send us your email address and we will forwards you our standard guidance notes which include all the ins and outs you should consider before adopting a dog from Spain and also an adoption questionnaire to fill in regarding your personal details. These are used to help us ensure that the potential adopter is suitable for their chosen dog. Once accepted, a video home check will be required to ensure that everything is in place and as it should be for when your chosen canine friend arrives. All dogs will be spayed or neutered accordingly and will be passported, wormed and microchipped. All this is included in the adoption fee as well as health screening as set out below. There are some diseases related to Spanish dogs related to sand-flies and tick bites that are not an issue for dogs in the UK. Please note your dog will be screened for Leishmaniosis, Dirofilariasis, Ehrlichiosis and Anaplasmosis before the adoption process is finalised. More about these diseases can be obtained from SSDRUK if you require more information. Your dog will be vaccinated for Canine Distemper, Infectious Hepatitis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza. Your dog will also be inoculated from rabies as a precaution in line with DEFRA policy even though rabies is not an issue in Spain. They will receive a final overall health check by a vet before leaving Spain and arrive in the UK with a required valid health certificate. Costs include adoption fee, import duty and DEFRA regulated transport travel fee. The total cost to adopt a dog is £550.00 (£300 adoption fee, £250.00 travel fee). SSDRUK also have a small selection of Sponsor Dogs available where the travel fee will be covered by generous donators and fund raising. This would leave only the adoption cost of £300 for these selected if you were to adopt. These dogs have been carefully selected from ones that have been in the shelter for several years or more due to their invisibility to potential adopters. MORE ABOUT SCOOBY PROTECTORIA DE ANIMALES, MEDINA DEL CAMPO, SPAIN (a charity registered in Spain who we have chosen to work alongside with in the sole purpose of advancing animal welfare)
Scooby Protectoria is a shelter in rural Spain, deep in the coursing countryside. The shelter is purpose built but basic. The premises was established over 30 years ago and did not have running water or electricity in the shelter’s early days. Over the years through tenacious fund-raising and hard work Scooby’s founders have moved the shelter to a new level with utilities and an on-site veterinary clinic. Scooby can now be responsible for sheltering up to 1000 animals at a time who are abandoned, brought in off the streets or are rescued from Spain's perreras (notoriously known as killing shelters). Scooby not only rescue dogs, they are also awash with cats, horses and goats which have also been saved.
