Our lovely friend L B Equine Services has taken Millie and Sox on foster for the Summer.
Lucinda and her family treat these two like their own and give them so much care and attention.
The lovely people at Rose Mill Feeds Ilminster have donated some tasty veteran mash to keep Millie and Sox in tip top condition during their Summer holiday!
Both Millie and Sox ended up needing help due to their individual owners circumstances taking some horrendous turns for the worse. Millie's owner suffered a brain aneurysm and was in a coma for some time, the end result was 3 horses in poor condition and desperate for somewhere to go. This could happen to any of us at any time, do you have a plan for the unexpected??
At the time, Lucinda, who is partial to a quirky thoroughbred, had more grass than her own horses could eat and offered it to us!
We are so grateful for supporters like Lu and her family and local businesses such as Rose Mills and Castle Horse Feeds in this case! Thank you all! 😊
Beautiful day to get rugs dry 🤩

Overreach boots!
These are essential for turnout - especially after the Great British weather we've been having. Adding a layer of protection allows your farrier to shoe for hoof health not just a muddy field.
A piece of rubber/neoprene vs. A 500kg horse, galloping full pelt, doing mud gymnastics may not stop them from pulling a shoe but they certainly will protect from cuts, nicks, slips and missteps and can save a lot of unnecessary shoe loss and damage that comes with that.
Overreach boots work best when -
✅ They cover the entire back of the foot
✅ Cover the sides of the foot
✅ Are a snug fit
✅ Have secure fastenings
✅ Don't rub
✅ The horse can still move freely
✅ Sausage boots can be a good alternative for hind limbs
✅ Double up if you need to
✅ Check them daily for breakages and rubbing
✅ Always have a spare pair!
Ps. If your horse loses overreach boots frequently - good! They're doing their job. They're a great investment!
70 plus rugs delivered back this morning 😀 then on for three more collections . !!!
Thank you so much to Castle Horse Feeds for donating some delicious Veteran Shine to Milly & Sox.
These two are currently in foster with L B Equine Services for Ferne Animal Sanctuary.

Love spending time with these guys !!
4 days holiday cover finished ✔️
This really is important to take the time to remove this plant from your pasture. Absolutely hate ragwort.!!
***RAGWORT***
How many of us struggle to get rid of ragwort in our pasture? Whilst it is incredibly annoying to see those bright yellow flowers spring up each year after year, it’s vital that we remove the plants as they are very toxic to our horses if eaten and may cause irreversible liver damage.
Whilst horses tend not to eat Ragwort because it has a bitter taste, if it is cut, wilted and dried (whether left in the pasture or found in forage such as hay) it loses its bitter taste and becomes more palatable but is still just as toxic.
If you have ragwort growing in your horse’s pasture, the best way of removing it is to pull the plants up so that the roots are removed from the ground. When ‘pulling’ ragwort:
• Always wear gloves and cover your arms.
• Try to pull up the plants when they are immature and before they shed seeds – seeds ripen in July & August and are generally shed in September.
• Ensure that all the root is removed as remaining fragments will regrow.
• It will be easier to pull it up when the ground is soft or damp after rain.
• Ragwort is a biannual plant (flowers every two years) and its seeds lie dormant in the ground so the removal of plants will need to be done annually for at least two years.
• When removed, immediately bag the plant or put it into a container which prevents it from spreading seeds whilst transporting it for disposal.
• Dispose of it by composting or taking it to your local recycling/composting centre. If there is only a small amount, it may be burned if it is safe to do so and away from buildings, people and animals. Safe and effective disposal of the removed plants is key to preventing further spread.
• It is vital that all dead ragwort is removed from the pasture as it becomes more palatable and is, therefore, more likely to be eaten
