One of our adopted cats, Liquorice, didn't return home as usual and hasn't been seen since Wednesday 31st July. He went missing from Norman Road in St Leonards.

Liquorice is neutered, microchipped and flagged as missing. Please share this post around the St Leonarda area to help us get him back home to his loving family.

Meet our oldest PAW Society alumna: 17-year-old Tinks! 🐶

Some of you may remember this sweet lady arriving in our care at age 14.

We happily took her in but worried she'd be overlooked for our much younger pups... 😣

However, her foster mum quickly fell head-over-heels with her and decided she couldn't let her go. It turns out she's a little lady with a BIG personality! 😍

At her grand age she is still enjoying life with a spring in her step. Tinks is proof that you absolutely shouldn’t rule out adopting senior animals! 🤗

Porche is described as very affectionate and confident with anyone she meets, but takes a particular liking to older men. She has been completely neutral towards children - happy for them to fuss her but she doesn’t actively seek them out or join in with games. She could live with children who don’t put any pressure on her to interact.

With the other cats, Porche has been very calm but does like her own space, especially at meal times. She could be happy as an only cat or with a cat who won’t pester her. As she doesn’t stand up for herself when bothered, Porche would be unhappy with a dog who isn’t cat savvy, but could co-exist with a dog who isn’t interested in her.

Due to Porche’s confident nature, she could adapt well to a busy home or entertain herself if her family are out of the house for the day. Although she would be happy as an indoor or outdoor cat, we would prefer her to be indoor only for safety reasons.

Merry is described as playful and affectionate but equally independent when it suits her. She has been calm in the presence of adults and will affect a fuss when she pleases. Merry blossoms in the company of children and enjoys playing games with them. Supervision is important as Merry can become overly excited and nip playfully if she is over stimulated.

With the other cats, Merry has shown great confidence - she’s not afraid to let another cat know if they are bothering her, or shove them out of the way at meal times. While she would be happy as an only cat, she could happily co-exist with another independent cat. We also believe she is confident enough to live with dogs.

Due to Merry’s confident nature, she could adapt well to a busy home or entertain herself if her family are out of the house for the day. Although she would be happy as an indoor or outdoor cat, we would prefer her to be indoor only for safety reasons.

BatCat is described as an affectionate boy and a real lap cat. He loves to be cuddled and especially loves a good head rub. On the odd occasion he decides he’s had enough attention, he communicates this with a growl. He doesn’t escalate above the growl as his wishes have always been respected.

He gets on well with the other cats but can sometimes growl and hiss if they annoy him and will sometimes bat them with his paw. He seems much more tolerant of female cats. In a previous foster home, BatCat lived with dogs who he tolerated, and could learn to live with a small and calm dog. He can live with children who will respect his space when he asks for it.

BatCat could adapt well to a busy home where he has a choice of laps to sit on but is independent enough to entertain himself if his family go out to work. Although he would be happy as an indoor or outdoor cat, we would prefer him to be indoor only for safety reasons.

Olly’s foster says he has the gentlest soul she’s ever known in a dog and describes him as a complete sweetheart. Following his traumatic past, Olly is now learning that he’s allowed to be a dog and seems to be enjoying every minute. He can still be worried by new people or noises, but no longer completely freezes with fear. Instead, he will pause for a moment and continue with his day. The only fear response he still shows is around young children playing or being noisy.

In foster, Olly lives with five other dogs of various shapes and sizes and has thrived in their presence. He will require at least one dog in his new home to boost his confidence, but seems to show no preference on age, s*x or breed - his favourites out of the five he lives with are a 45kg male and a 10kg female.

Olly enjoys short walks of around 20 minutes and is working on losing some excess weight. His fitness needs improving and his walk times may be slowly increased as he becomes healthier. He has been a dream to train and figured out toilet training in one night after copying the other dogs. Olly has never shown any destructive behaviours and is happy to have some peace and quiet if left home alone for a few hours.

Tilly's story... 🐱

This sweet girl arrived in our care heavily pregnant.

So heavily pregnant, in fact, that she went into labour the day after she arrived at her foster home — we can’t imagine how frightening all this change all at once must’ve been for her! 😿

Like a trooper, she took it in her stride and welcomed six gorgeous kittens into the world. 💪

Clearly, she was a professional at this point, with this litter being her THIRD at just two years old. 😔

However, we’re delighted to say, at the start of this year, Tilly found her forever family and she will never have to carry a litter again. 🙏

Her family said: “Tilly is doing absolutely wonderfully. She’s settled in perfectly and now her personality is shining.

“She’s a princess (and she knows it), and we truly couldn’t be happier… We can’t imagine life without her!” 🥰

Stories like Tilly’s are exactly why we rescue. 🙌

Our rescuers in Romania have been at it again! 👏

102 cats and dogs have been neutered in just two days thanks to a huge team effort from The Great Catsby and others. 🙌

However, they have been unable to reach their fundraising target which, for a rescue whose funds are already extremely stretched, puts them in a dire position...

We received just one donation following our previous appeal. While this was very gratefully received, we desperately need more financial help to support lifesaving missions like these. 🫶

We believe spaying and neutering is the only real solution to the huge number of stray animals across the world. 🌏

By neutering strays, we can ensure fewer animals are born into a life of uncertainty, starvation and cruelty. Neutering also reduces the risk of deadly diseases such as pyometra and certain cancers. 🤒

Hope’s cruel owner (and PAW Society trustee) Hannah has inflicted this monstrosity on her now! 😮

All she was doing was contorting her body around the ‘cone of shame’ to chew on her tail! And she thought she’d finally outwitted the humans…

Hope’s now been forced to hire her brother Jeff as a bodyguard. Although, so far, we hear he’s not doing a very good job and keeps wagging his tail at the enemy… ahem, Hannah!

When will the cruelty end?! 😫

Happy birthday to our miracle kitty! 🐱✨

Little Albus turned 1 today and we’re celebrating big time because, a year ago, we never could’ve imagined he’d make it to this day. 😢

Our trustee Lynda, who miraculously nursed him back to health, had told our team she didn’t think he would make it through the night... He was refusing to feed from his mum and, at 7 weeks old, he was given 72 hours to live due to ‘failure to thrive’. 💔

Well, just look at him now! 😻

We’re so glad we didn’t give up, and even happier that he didn’t either. 🙏

Huge losses for the last few months had our anxiety levels sky high. 😭 We wondered how we could continue if the charity never has the money to fulfil its purpose.

This month, we were extremely lucky to not have any emergency vet bills or large costs. Once our four newbies arrive, the bank will be almost back at zero and the sleepless nights will continue... 😩

Unlike a "normal" job, we can't just switch off from the charity. It's our baby and seeing it suffer month after month is soul destroying. We receive so many kind words of support, but our donation income never increases. 💔

Lorek’s foster describes him as “genuinely perfect” and says no family is complete without him. For the majority of the day, Lorek is calm and gentle but he does have a goofy side that comes out occasionally. He is highly food driven and will bounce, sing and dance when dinner time is near. He enjoys one hour of walking per day and is happy for this to be one long walk, or two shorter ones, although he can become restless if not walked before lunchtime. He walks beautifully on a loose lead mostly but does enjoy zoomies when on a long training lead.

Lorek lives with a female spaniel who has become his emotional support dog and allowed him to grow in confidence. On walks, Lorek loves meeting other dogs and shows perfect doggy manners. He would struggle as an only dog so must be homed with a happy and confident canine friend. Lorek has been incredibly gentle with his foster’s three-year-old child and is very calm in her presence. The only concern with Lorek and children is when he becomes excited and bouncy, he could knock a child over if they’re not used to this type of dog.

In the home, Lorek can bark when visitors arrive but is quick to settle once he meets them. He can struggle when his foster leaves home but has found Lorek is quick to settle if in the company of her dog. It is best if he cannot see the front door and is left with an activity to keep him busy.

Chase is described as an absolute sweetheart who is just bursting with love to give. Once he overcomes his initial fear of strangers, he loves nothing more than to be glued to a lap and fussed over. As he’s such a lovebug, Chase would love to live with a single person or couple who are home for the majority of the time, either working from home or retired. He takes a while to trust and can still be worried if someone he loves moves suddenly, but is much quicker to trust women. His foster mum can often be found with a Chase-shaped shadow, following her around the house.

Chase has a heart condition, congenital aortic stenosis. His aortic valve is narrowed, meaning his heart has to work harder to pump blood around his body. It is likely that Chase’s lifespan will be shortened as a result, but we don’t know by how much. He was prescribed blood thinners to make it easier for his heart to function, but he experienced side effects that severely affected his wellbeing.

Due to his condition, Chase needs his environment to be calm and quiet to avoid putting stress on his heart. He can be very skittish and easily worried, so would be happiest living as an only pet and with no children.

Becoming a permanent foster means sharing responsibility for an animal with us. You will cover day-to-day costs such as food, bedding and routine medical appointments. The rescue acts as your safety net for the life-long health condition and will be responsible for anything relating to this. In Chase’s case, this is medication for his congenital aortic stenosis, if a suitable medication can be found.
