Yesterday I found 2 very nice, good quality leads on the ground, on my walk. So I picked them up and left them where I hoped they would be found. They were still there on my return. Luckily the owner had a name tag and contact details on them. I was able to call them, send them this picture and let them know where they were.
Having your contact details on your dogs collar is essential but a contact on your expensive leads can also save you money.

Just a little info on ticks that I found on my page, and this year on the forest they have been around in their millions 😡 mostly where livestock are grazed.

Tick facts…..
Here’s the science 😁
1. I hate the little 💩 with a passion
2. They live ONLY to eat and mate
3. Some can live for 2 years without feeding, waiting until they can attach to their favourite host.
4. The female can lay up to 5000 eggs ….WTAF!!!!
5. Once they get onto a host they can bite, feed and drop off in upto 8 hrs OR wander around the host body for several days looking for a cosy place to snack 😱
6. They are a freaking bio hazard…a bacteria fest, so if you handle one wash your hands immediately
7. Do NOT kill on the host, carefully remove( tick tools are fab) they can vomit their meal back into the host which is full of bacteria
8. Rubbing alcohol kills them
9. Do NOT flush down the loo if still alive, you are just sending them somewhere else.
10. Did I say I hate the little beasts?
11. They can be suffocated by putting into an air tight container.
12. If you squish them do not let any of the gore get on you, it is full of bacteria ….wash immediately.
13. If you are worried about Lymes disease, remove the tick and place in a container write the date on it, then if you show signs of illness you can use this to be tested.
14. They can survive a full wash cycle under 60C
15. Wash dog bedding at 60c on a full cycle OR at least 20m in a dryer at 60C +
16. They cannot jump, but wait on grasses / vegetation for you or your dog/ horse to brush past 0-6inches is the optimum height for them.
17. You should never walk in shorts in an area known for ticks
18. They love the wet!
19. They are around all year but more prevalent spring and autumn- 2024 a massive explosion as the winter was not cold enough.
20.Always check your animals and yourself outside for ticks. Ears, mouth, armpits, groin, crevices are a fave, on humans they also seem to like the head. If you get the bullseye rash, get to the Dr immediately.
21. They will lay their eggs in your carpets, in clothes and abandon them to get on with it….looks like red caviar, but a ‘nest’ is only about 1/2 inch big. Can be killed by putting salt on it, desiccates the eggs, then dispose of immediately.
22. They vary in size from pin head to the size of a coffee bean depending on stage of life ( 3 stages) and if they have fed.
23. Sadly they do play a part in the eco system as a food at the bottom of the food chain.
24. I really really don’t like them, hate them even more than fleas and wasps!!!

Lesson over 😀

Thankfully I managed to get this little girl home after she escaped. I caught her when she was running down Ladies Mile this morning during the post school run. Please, please ensure your dog has your mobile number on its collar.
