Have you ever seen an advert like this before? Itโs extremely concerning to see the increase in people buying pets through social media in this way โ ๏ธ
We are part of the Pet Advertising Advisory Group (PAAG/How To Buy A Pet). This group is made up of animal welfare organisations, trade associations, local authority representatives and veterinary bodies, working together to ensure that pets are advertised for sale in a way that is both legal and ethical.
Recent research shows that 94% of the reviewed pet adverts on social media would not meet the guidelines set out by the group. And worryingly, almost one in five of the reported ads were believed to be scams ๐ง
PAAG has witnessed a massive increase in the number of pets and animals advertised for sale online. And itโs vital that more is done to protect animal welfare and consumers.
This , donโt fall victim to an irresponsible advert from unscrupulous online sellers. Weโre urging those of you looking to buy a pet to avoid going on social media to do so. Instead see PAAGโs advice on buying a pet and what to look out for: http://pdsa.me/ZxhI
[Visual description: An infographic that shows what a social post looks like that is advertising pets for sale. The title reads: Puppies for sale, get them in time for Christmas. Smaller copy reads: Two adorable puppies in desperate need of a loving home for Christmas. One male and one female available. Need to be gone quickly. They are ready for collection straight away. Please do not ask to see the puppies where they were born and raised, or see their mum, as this will not be possible. Cash only. All sales are final. Seller cannot accept liability for likely illnesses, long-term health and behavioural issues. Underneath the text there are three images of the puppies.]
