🐾 Grooming for Senior Dogs: A Little Extra TLC 🐾
As our pets grow older, their grooming needs can shift. Regular grooming is more than just keeping them looking good – it helps keep our senior dogs healthy, comfortable, and feeling loved. 💕
Here at Little Pickle Dog Grooming I make it a priority to spend the time and give extra care for those pets in their special golden years. It’s a topic especially close to my heart, as I am caring for my own senior dog currently.
Things we can do to help them at this stage in their life:
1. Gentle Brushing: Older dogs can have more sensitive skin and sometimes thinner coats. A softer brush, used gently, can help avoid discomfort and also stimulate blood flow for a healthy coat.
2. Frequent Nail Trims: Older dogs tend to be less active, meaning their nails may not wear down as quickly. Regular trims help prevent discomfort, slipping, and joint strain.
3. Moisturise: Just like us, senior dogs can develop dry skin. Ask us about our dog-friendly paw moisturiser to keep their skin soft and reduce cracks.
4. Check for Lumps, Bumps, & Sensitivities: Grooming time is a great opportunity to check for any unusual lumps, bumps, or sore spots. These can pop up as our dogs age, and early detection is always best!
5. Extra Patience & Love: Some senior dogs may become a bit more anxious about grooming sessions, especially if they have joint pain or limited mobility. I like to take it slow, offer treats and reassurance, and make it a calm experience.
Grooming is a great way to bond with our older dogs, helping them to feel relaxed and loved in their senior years. After all, they’ve spent a lifetime making us smile – they deserve the best! 🐶❤️
