=^..^= =^..^= =^..^=

As a Certified and Accredited Feline Behaviour Practitioner and Associate Member of the CFBA (Canine,Feline Behavior Association) (http://www.cfba.co.uk/sheena-mccall.html ) I provide a service that will try to address su

ch problems as spraying and litter tray/toileting issues, inter-cat relations, fear and aggression and all matters arising in kitten care. Based in Scotland, I conduct home visits within reasonable travelling distance of my home and provide each client with a modification plan and follow-through support by email or phone for a period of up to 2 months. Those that are, due to distance, too far away may still make contact and I will help in any way I can. I also keep in the learning loop about new research through the BVBA (British Veterinary Behaviour Association)

Please do not suffer behind closed doors, there is help available for you and your pet. I can be contacted either by email, phone or face book message and I will get back to you as soon as possible with more details.

=^..^= It will be requested that your pet is first seen by a qualified vet as many behaviour issues can have an underlying medical cause. My expertise is in behaviour. I am not a vet. I also love advising on the early socialization of kittens, this covers a 2-3 month period until kittens are homed. Prevention of problems is always better than cure.

=^..^= =^..^= = ^..^=

No individual cases will be discussed on this site. Each case is individual and need to be dealt with as such. It does however draw together small gems of wisdom from professional feline bodies that will help you better understand the nature of the domestic cat and and what he is trying to tell you

SPIRITS OF THE FOREST by Raphaël

SPIRITS OF THE FOREST
In the forest, where whispers roam.
Cats of spirit, ethereal home.
Silent guardians of the wood.
In shadowed groves, they feel the mood.

Moonlit paws, they softly tread.
Through emerald realms, where dreams are bred.
Feline wraiths with glowing eyes.
Watch o'er the woods, as darkness lies.

Velvet phantoms, in dusk they play.
Enchanted guardians, never astray.
Whiskered shadows, they intertwine.
With ancient oaks, their spirits align.

In leafy beds, they find their rest.
Within the forest's verdant breast.
They slumber sweet, 'neath starry skies.
As gentle breeze, through branches, sighs.

Dreaming cats of mystic wood.
Their secrets deep, misunderstood.
As they slumber, wisdom's embrace.
Forest spirits cradled, in their restful place.

Thought I would repost this as we are now 12months further into lockdown and over stimulation issues are still appearing.
PLEASE READ THRU!
This article is somewhat tongue in cheek BUT it holds a cart load of truth.
Cats have always been good at the social distancing thing and some are even completely averse to constant stroking or being held. Even the most social of the breed have their limits! Cat/ human aggression is one of my most common behavioural cases. Please remember this and if you are now at home more, by yourself or with family, for whatever reason, please keep this in mind and leave the cat to human contact in the cat's paws. Over handling may cause a cat to turn aggressive as it is the only way he has of saying 'get off, leave me alone' and neither he nor you will like it if this action has been taken and will become stress bringing with it more issues.
Cats are the most solitary of species and this distance must be catered for at all times. If you must play extra with him use distant play. Balls, puzzle feeders you can make with the kids - you've now plenty of time!! - and dangled toys are best and allow your cat to walk away when he has had enough. How about making a cat play area with boxes and all the stuff you meant to throw out!
Some cats are even best loved from a distance, personal space is always a cat's best friend.
This is especially important for those with young kittens as this will be their formative months and will set the youngsters character for life. And beware, after time this is set, will be unchangeable.

THE UK’s cats do not know why their owners are suddenly home and getting all up in their faces during their quiet time.

Can you get any better than this? Our cats walk out at the mere sight of a stringed instrument 😻 🥰

Agreed this is the natural way cats eat and some good sense here. The one real issue is not to feed cats in the same place as their house mates. Each cat needs its own feeding station.
The best idea for keeping cats close to natural hunting tactics is to use puzzle feeders where they have to work and use paws to access dinner. There are many good ones on the market or make your own. Many of us are rather disinclined to have food lying around the house carpet ..... hmmm, me included :) :) but the many food puzzles now available are the best idea. The general term for this is 'behavioural enrichment' and is used in all places where animals are held outwith there natural habitat .. and if not, it should be!!

Some good advice here altho I would advocate changing the litter completely more often than once a month. One of my main tips would be use the largest tray you have space for, the bigger the better. Cats love to turn, dig and squirm before they settle to business. It also helps to keep the litter IN the tray- ..... or you could try an edged tray if digging for Britain is a real problem 😹

Perhaps the only downside of having a cat is dealing with the cat’s litter box.
