Look how lovely the bottom part of the coat is. Like a teddy bear. Just a few white tufts remain on the top part, but the whole coat ends up looking lovely and smooth when those tufts are removed. Always ask for help if you are struggling with your dog's coat. It is better to have more frequent grooming rather than let it build up and end up with a huge dematting bill or visits to the vet. Also it can be a welfare issue if the dog is suffering or in discomfort.

Removing undercoat or 'tufts'. See the white thick sections of fur below, these are big clumps or 'tufts' of fur, which is simply loose undercoat which has not been combed out. Tackle this on a daily basis and a matted coat will not occur. Tackle one small piece at a time and it should comb out quite easily. If it has built up and has become hard knotted fur, it is unkind to comb and usually requires a groomer to clip it out, so that there is no pulling of the skin or discomfort for the dog.

This is an example of a matted coat. Image one shows the outer hairs and image two shows the underside, which is one 'rug'. The loose undercoat has not been removed, so over time builds up and intertwines, forming extremely tight knots and when left a long time, forms one huge carpet of matted fur through the entire coat, which is very hard to remove. The fur twists and knots so tight that it lies very tight to the skin, with little room for a clipper blade to rest underneath it for removal. Dogs can be extremely uncomfortable, with their skin being pulled by the knots. Also debris is usually lodged within the coat, inside the mats and the skin is unable to function properly, with airflow restricted. Severe matting can also interfere with urination or defecation unfortunately. Dried poo and urine stains have been found in some mats removed from dogs. During clipping, the coat usually hangs off the dog in huge sections until a spot can be found to break it free.

This advert causes issues for me. It infers that it is common for groomers to cut a dog's nail quick, which is wrong. This gives groomers a bad name. In 12 years of grooming I have had only one small incident which was fixed immediately. I spend many long hours dealing with dogs who fidget, wriggle, shake or object strongly to having their paws even stroked but work hard to gain their trust. There can be many reasons a dog will not be relaxed and let you touch the paw. This tool still works as a dremel, grinding the nail, so despite brushless motor I doubt there would be silence while it grinds. Even a manual nail file makes some noise. I welcome any tool to improve the groom experience but be wary of marketing like this. It's the grooming approach which is important. Do give regard to how tough grooming is before condeming any groomer. By the way, these images of muzzles and restraints are awful and horrendous ways to treat dogs, which is why I am proud to promote a kind, holistic approach. Thank you

This very friendly visited us with a coat absolutely full of mats. The whole coat contained huge bumps all over and a comb could not go through any of the coat. The short clipper blade would not even slide underneath the very tight knots. 8 hours later (in three sittings) a new dog emerged from the piles of fur.

Lovely cuddly Willow, don't look so sad. She enjoyed her belly rub after.
