Balls and dogs… 🥎

Recently at a wedding someone was asking me for some advice for their dog after his recent surgery. He had fractured a bone in his forelimb and they said “it happened chasing a ball, if we had known it wasn’t a good thing to do we wouldn’t have done it”.

We hear this so often; everyone we see loves their dog and wants the best for them, but ball throwing and dogs have become synonymous in people’s minds and there is a strong culture for it - it looks so fun, it tires them out quickly and we think it is keeping them fit.

But what is actually happening?

Repeatedly stimulating their prey drive keeps them wired and overstimulated.
Motivated to carry on chasing, they work way past muscle fatigue, and high adrenaline means they won’t be aware of pain at the time.

What is chasing?

Fast uncontrolled acceleration and deceleration; twisting and turning without thinking about their bodies.

What happens to humans who do this in sport in a much more controlled way?

ACL injuries, Achilles ruptures, fractures… no surprise then that this is similar to what we see in our canine clinic.

‼️ CLIENT NOTICE ‼️

Summer has decided to come out and play, with temperatures set to soar next week ☀️

For the welfare of your dogs, walks will only take place at temperatures below 23c, and these will be restricted to shady walks with a water source.

Walks will start earlier in the morning to ensure dogs are home before the temperatures get to dangerous levels (24c and over).

Please make sure the areas where the dogs are left are well ventilated, curtains drawn to protect from direct sunlight and plenty of fresh water. If there are treats you would like me to leave with them, eg frozen kongs etc, just let me know ☺️

I will be in touch and in regular contact with all my regulars anyway, but any questions just message me 🐶🐾

Your dog’s safety is always my top priority 🥰

🩶Annie🩶

It’s taken me a while to be able to post this, and I’ve still got tears streaming down my face 💔

This beautiful girl passed away last month, and I can’t tell you how much I adored her. She lived a long, wonderful life, and she loved nothing more than cuddles 🥰 As you can see from the photos, we had a regular spot where I have spent hours and hours over the past 15(!) ish years with her purring in my lap.

She had just turned 18 when she passed away, and I have been looking after her for the majority of that time. David and Jane, Annie’s humans, are family friends and I’m so grateful and honoured they trusted me with looking after her for all these years.

I will so miss our cwtches 💔🥺

Finally 🙌🏼 frosty days means no (or much much less!) mud, which means a very happy Liz 🫶🏼🥰 And happy dogs not having to have a hose down 😂🤩 These crisp winter days just make me feel so much better, anyone else?? ❄️☀️

A message of support for all the professional dog walkers the length of the country who step out today to carry on their work in animal care.

Please bear in mind, that although the tragic event that happened on Thursday is shocking to hear, it’s exceedingly rare. In our almost 20 years operating I have never heard of such a thing, and hope never to again.

Don’t cast assumptions based on media coverage. A full investigation must take place before anyone can say anything. Don’t get caught up in media hype.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the young woman’s family, friends & colleagues.

Absolutley heartbroken to learn that this beautiful boy, Bailey, passed over to rainbow bridge today 💔🌈
Part of the 3 musketeers, on my next sit the house won’t feel the same without his cuddles and company 💔🥺
Lots of love to his owner, Emma, who trusted me with his care and who gave him the best home in the world ❤️

ALL WALKS CANCELLED MONDAY & TUESDAY THIS WEEK!! ☀️☀️☀️

Eira wants to remind you to keep your dogs inside and cool during this heatwave! They will not die due to a missed walk, but a walk in this heat may well 💔

She says it’s a very good idea to lie spread eagled on any and all tiled floor in the house, perhaps a few wet towels or cooling mats wouldn’t go amiss, and maybe even a fan if they’re okay with being a L’Oréal model 😏💁🏼‍♀️

She’s particularly partial to frozen treats and lots of water, maybe a dip in a paddling pool, and likes all the blinds or curtains to be closed, because a lady likes to lie naked on the tiled floor in peace 😂🥵

Keep those doggies safe please!! ☀️🥰☀️

Temperatures are soaring this week 🥵☀️

I’ll be mostly doing garden plays for as long as the weather stays this hot, because the dog’s health is always my number 1 priority! And heat stroke can be fatal.

Keep your dogs cool with pools/paddling pools, obviously lots of fresh water, and enrichment games at home. Frozen treats are a big hit!
DO NOT walk during the day: early mornings or late evenings only!

Lily stays cool with a shallow dip and Eirys is a complete water baby, both staying lovely and cool! Plus fans everywhere and lots and lots of shade!

I’m back to work after my Covid “break” 🤒😂🙈

Missed all my dogs so much, and these guys have given me the best welcome back! ❤️ I’m taking it slowly and not quite back to my usual self and doing small walks to ease back in, the tiredness is no joke! But planning to be back to normal next week 🤞🏻

Thank you to all my amazing clients for being so understanding while I’ve been laid up 🥰

It’s been a hot one today! ☀️☀️

We were out at the crack of dawn to get our walks in at the coolest part of the day, but still our place was exclusively by the river today to make sure we stayed extra cool! ☀️🫧

And then it was back to our pet sit, where it was cold baths all round, and chilling in front of the fan for Gypsy, Bailey and Honey. Going to miss these three!! 🥺💜
