Pet insurance or a preventative healthcare plan?
Pet insurance can cover unexpected accidents or illnesses which

On World Chocolate Day, it's sensible to keep in mind that
chocolate is poisonous to our canine friends.
Try to keep chocolate out of reach of your dog, but if an accident
does happen, these are the symptoms you should keep an eye
out for.
The poison itself takes between 4 and 24 hours to cause signs
which include:
🍫 Muscle stiffness
🍫 Tremors
🍫 Vomiting
🍫 Heart arrhythmias and fitting
If you notice these symptoms, call your vet immediately.

Some pets love to smother us with wet-nosed (or
wet-tongued!) kisses, while others prefer to show
us their love from a respectful distance.
Always let your pet decide how they show
affection, and respect their boundaries if they’re
uncomfortable.
Will you get kisses or hisses this International
Kissing Day? 😽

We all love a day at the seaside with our four-legged friends, but let’s make
sure we’re keeping our beaches safe, clean and fun for everyone. 🏖️🐶
✅ Pick up after your dog - and dispose of poo bags properly
✅ Be observant of restrictions - not all beaches allow dogs all year round
✅ Keep your dog under control - use a lead in busy areas or near wildlife
✅ Don’t let your dog approach others without checking first - not every dog
or person wants to say hello
✅ Watch out for heatstroke - take breaks for shade and fresh water, and stay
out of the intense midday sun
✅ Never let your dog drink seawater - small amounts can cause vomiting or
diarrhoea and large amounts can have dangerous consequences
Most importantly - have fun and enjoy the sand and surf! We’d love to see
your favourite dog beach snaps below 🐾📷⬇️

As the warmer months arrive, we are more likely to spot Britain’s only venomous
snake - the adder. While bites in dogs are thankfully rare, cases tend to peak
between June and August. ☀️🐍
Adders are a protected species and these beautiful creatures are an important part
of our ecosystem. They are not aggressive and only bite in self defence - including
when stepped on or surprised by a curious dog!
By staying alert and respecting their space, we can help protect both our dogs and
our native wildlife. Adders are most commonly found in drier, open habitats like:
🌳 Woodland edges
🌱 Grassy heaths and moorland
🏖️ Sandy coastal areas and rocky paths
Keeping dogs under close control or on a lead, and sticking to clear paths, can help
to avoid encounters.

It’s grass seed season!
These barbed seeds easily attach to fur and can burrow into the skin, causing pain and infection.
Watch for These Signs:
Ears: Head shaking, scratching, and discomfort may indicate a seed lodged in the ear. These don’t work their way out and may need removal under sedation or anaesthetic.
Eyes: Redness, weeping, pawing, or squinting can signal a seed under the
eyelid. Prompt vet attention is needed to prevent damage.
Feet: Lameness, licking, swelling, or oozing between toes could mean a seed
has pierced the skin. These can travel up the leg and may cause infections.
Prevention Tips:
Avoid areas with long grass during summer.
Trim coats, especially around feet, ears, and between toes – particularly
important for breeds like spaniels.
After walks, check your dog thoroughly and remove any visible seeds.

How hot is too hot for a dog walk?
Each dog is different, for example Brachycephalic (flat faced), elderly or young, excitable dogs are more at risk of heat stroke, but the below shows a general rule of thumb in terms of care needed when walking your dog in hot weather.
Remember, your dog missing a walk or an event is not the end of the world, if it could save their life.
