Bird avian flu notice🐓

Have you seen the recent rules that make it a legal requirement for everyone in Great Britain who keeps birds outdoors to register with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA)?

You can find more details here: guidance-for-registration-of-kept-birds-sept-2024.pdf (bva.co.uk)

New mandatory bird registration: what do keepers need to know – Government Vets (blog.gov.uk)

The rules apply to poultry and other captive birds including pets and aviary birds.
You do not need to register indoor birds such as budgies, parrots, cockatiels and finches if they are fully housed in a dwelling (your home or another indoor structure) and with no access to the open air.

The 11th November is a day dedicated to honoring military personnel who lost their lives in service to their country.

The date commemorates the armistice signed at the end of World War I on November 11, 1918.

Wearing a poppy is a show of support for the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, veterans and their families.

It represents all those who lost their lives on active service, from the beginning of the First World War right up to present day.

Our practice is taking part in the 2024 Antibiotic Amnesty.

Throughout November 2024 we are asking pet owners to return any unused or leftover antibiotic medications to us for safe disposal. Please drop off any unused medications to us at the practice. You can hand them in to a vet, nurse or the reception team.

This medication might be left-over from a recent
prescription, antibiotics that you didn’t need or out-of- date medication.

Let’s keep antibiotics working, together!

ATTENTION

Please be advised that we will have NO VET ON SITE TODAY, Saturday 09/11/2024. We have attempted to get a locum vet to cover but have been unsuccessful. Our front door will be locked, and we will only be able to accommodate the following services:

Phone calls for general enquiries and booking non-urgent appointments

Collection of medication that has already been dispensed (new prescriptions will not be issued because these will require a vet’s authorisation; please do not attend the clinic unless you have already received a message that your prescription is ready to collect).
Please phone the clinic or ring the doorbell on arrival to collect your medication.

If you have an emergency, we can assist you by phone, but will be directing you to attend our out-of-hours provider (YourVets Rayleigh) for in-clinic assessment and care by a veterinarian. If you are unable to take your pet to YourVets in Rayleigh, we would
suggest that you contact a more local out-of-hours provider. We will NOT be able to assess your pet or provide treatment in clinic.

Our weekday hours and services remain the same (8am-8pm) for full vet and nurse appointments, repeat prescriptions, etc.

Wednesday 6th November marks National Stress Awareness Day, which seeks to raise awareness of the negative effects that stress can have on our health.

While stress can sometimes serve as a helpful motivator, too much of it can negatively impact our mood, body, and mind.

This is where our pets play an important role: they can greatly help reduce stress and boost mental well-being. Interacting with pets has a soothing effect on the body, helping to lower blood pressure, ease anxiety, and increase feelings of social support.

Petting or cuddling animals can release oxytocin, a hormone that promotes relaxation and bonding, while also lowering cortisol levels, which are linked to stress.

Feeling stressed? Take a few extra moments today to cuddle your pet and ease those feelings of tension.

Deafness is rising in the UK; by 2035, it is estimated that one in five British people (over 15 million) will experience hearing loss.
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People is a national charity that trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds like the smoke alarm, alarm clock and even a baby’s cry.
Their burgundy coats also act as a visual reminder to the public when they are out and about that their partner is deaf.
Donations raised through Pennies when you pay by card help support Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. Just a small donation can make a big difference!
