Do you need to travel with your cat this summer? 🐱 Keep these top tips in mind to make travelling as easy and stress-free as possible for you and your cat

Do...
✅ Use a safe cat carrier that's well-ventilated, sturdy and secured it with a seat belt.
✅ Pack the essentials as well as familiar comforts such as your cat's favourite blanket or toy to help them feel at home.
✅ Pay attention for signs of distress and address them promptly to help keep your cat calm.

Don't...
❌ Allow your cat to roam freely in the car; it's unsafe for everyone
❌ Overfeed before travelling to prevent motion sickness.
❌ Leave your cat unattended in the car, especially in warmer temperatures.

Accidents can happen at any time of the day but, although many think that it's safer to let cats out at night when it's quieter, statistically this is the most dangerous time for cats to be outside. In addition to the many other dangers after hours can bring, car headlights are very confusing for cats. For all their strengths, cats are poor at measuring distance and speed, and may make a dash for safety once the headlights have passed, only to run into (or under) the rest of the vehicle. Cats' eyes also do not adjust to light as quickly as ours do, which means sudden bright lights can dazzle them and make them disorientated. Ideally, if you have outdoor roamers, when you go to bed your cats should do too.
