🐾Sadie🐾

This fabulous team signed up for my PawFect Walk Package. In just four weeks they have had amazing improvements.

They have worked so hard, listened and practiced hard in-between sessions and it really had paid off. There are a.couple of places that are a challenge for Sadie but she will nail them with a little more time and practice.

Huge well done to them, great work, great team.

I look forward to seeing you in Rally Club 🐾😍🐕

❓WHY RALLY❓

I found Rally by accident, a course introduction sounded interesting so I thought I wold give it a go. I went down to Peterborough to find out what it is all about.

I met the very enthusiastic Jackie and i was hooked.

Being of a more mature age and not a particular energetic person this very much appealed to me. Now don't get me wrong I can walk for a good few miles, but running, pulling, all that kind of thing just wasn't for me, however I have a working breed of dog so I HAVE to find something we can do together.

Rally is the answer. We have only been doing it for a short time, some are doing better than others, but we can ALL do it. Clover with her short attention span, Indi with her metal plated leg, Lily with her hyperactive personality, Maisie with her obsession with toys and me a 54 year old overweight dog trainer lol.

So what is it? Rally is a Pet dog Sport where you navigate a course with your dog as a team, you have stations where you complete a task together and then move on to the next. All set up in a flowing course of between 12 and 15 stations on a course.

The tasks are all using your basic training, sit, down, heel, turn, switch, side, wait, that kind of thing.

Now this sounds easy right? But it is not and it is challenging, but most of all it is fun.

When you are confident enough, and of reasonable level we can then enter you in trials if you wish. These are where you are competing against yourself to improve your teams skills, get rosettes and achieve levels.

So who can do it?
Anyone, kids, teenagers, young, old and disabled. Any dogs can, puppies, any age dog, dogs with disabilities, reactive dogs etc.

So why not come and have a go. All classes are pay as you go, no courses to commit to, just work the sessions around you, your dog and your work?life commitments.

The Joy of One-on-One Dog Training

I find great fulfillment in working directly with clients during personalized dog training sessions.

It's incredibly rewarding to walk through the door and be greeted by a worried owner and a struggling pup, only to leave them later smiling and filled with hope.

Don't abandon your original vision and purpose for getting a dog, even when the reality falls short of expectations. With patience and expert guidance, you and your dog can move towards a better shared future.

Does your dog need focused attention and coaching?

Do they react poorly when out for walks?
Do they chase after traffic, bikes, or joggers?
Do they show fear and anxiety in public?
Do they ignore you when off-leash?
Do they disregard commands outside?
Does a group class setting intimidate you?
No matter the reason, one-on-one training can help you and your dog overcome challenges. I'll develop a customized training plan tailored to your dog's specific needs, empowering you to work as a team and achieve your goals.

Start 2024 off right by actively investing in your dog's happiness and your relationship.

🐾Jocasta🐾

My second visit out to Jocasta today. She has been working on some exercises to help her around her reactivity.

Jocasta has done really well with her training so far and today we went out and about to find some triggers.

We bumped into some dogs, which she did fabulously with. She had had a altercation with them before I arrived but on the second sighting under coaching Jocasta practiced some training without even knowing it and was outstanding.

The training done at home for the last few weeks now out on the road just slipped into place.

Jocasta will have a couple of weeks practicing this next stage and then she will meet the lovely Lily to help her on the next step of her training 😊 🐾❤️🐕

Oh and she lives in the most stunning location 😍

Training Dogs

When you have multiple dogs it is tough to train, I know from experience, time, life events, health and work commitments are all but a few things that challenge your time and energy to commit to our dogs.

Personally I do struggle with this too. Four dogs is a lot with everything life throws at you.

This is something you really need to do individually, it is very hard to train more than one dogs at a time.

We need to understand that little and often is better than giving up.

Five minutes a day is achievable, it may take a little longer but you will see incremental improvements, and that is a better than trying to do too much and get overwhelmed.

You can reduce walk time to give you that 5 minutes to train.

Put the training in the walk plan, do less distance and add in training..

How many cups of tea do you have? You can train while making a cup of tea, whilst waiting on the kettle.

Train whilst your partner makes dinner.

When adverts are on TV, 2 or 3 mintes, but how many sets of adverts are there, loads.

Get up that 10 minutes earlier to have that first session.

Outside in the garden 5 minutes while having your coffee.

We can all find 5 minutes somewhere in our day if we really try.

Be creative, find when you are able to put 5 minutes in, give it a go, you can do it 💪

I have met the gorgeous Zara and her message is very clear, let's hope that one day things will change for the better 🙏

Today marks 33yrs since the introduction of breed specific legislation to the UK. Thats 33yrs of punishing innocent dogs because of how they look and how they measure up. Has it made the public safer? No, in actual fact dog bites have increased year on year since its introduction. Have thousands of dogs paid the price for a poorly thought out knee jerk reaction? Absolutely! Many dogs have been euthanased having done nothing wrong except to have the misfortune of being born to look a certain way. Those lucky enough to be spared their life have often spent years in unknown kennels, isolated and when returned back to their families have to live a life of restrictions which inhibit their ability to exhibit natural behaviour.

Attempts to repeal the legislation have so far been unsuccessful. But in recent years, the well thought out science based approach to tackling the problem of dangerous dogs and irresponsible dog ownership has been projected by several large charities and key members leading the charge. Despite this a decision to add another type of dog to the list was made last year with huge consequences to large numbers of dogs and their families.

To define a dog as dangerous because of physical appearance is a far too simplistic approach to what is actually a very complex problem. We all know any dog can bite, and we have to be very mindful that larger, more powerful and more athletic dogs can inflict more damage. But does that mean they should be condemned? What leads to a dog bite is a complex question: genetics, early development, environment, training and health all play a huge part.

Now I'm one of the lucky ones, I was a stray and then in kennels for 18mo waiting to find my forever owner. Some dogs found as strays or currently unowned don't get that option, all because they measure 'too dangerous' and a keeper cannot be found. Since my exemption we haven't let my rules stop our fun, we have adventured all over the UK, climbed mountains and long distance walks. But whilst jumping through hoops to make sure no conditions are broken, yet I've never showed any aggression. In fact I'm the biggest softie, I take great pride in excessively cleaning faces and hands of anyone who will sit still long enough 😆 I've helped mam raise baby goats and sheep, I let wilf and joey wiggle their way in and more recently have taken on the role of kitten care giver. I love children, especially as they often have tasty sticky stuff on their face and hands and I'm great at cleaning them up.

Not being able to share my slobbery kisses with the world without giving them a rough skin exfoliation from my muzzle is most annoying and being unable to share my beautiful face (frosty bits now included) with everyone make me sad so mam has to make up for it with extra cuddles and adventures. But we will keep fighting and showing the world how we are more than just a label and that behind our scary muzzles is a wonderful member of the community !
